i knew i've been using the intel version all this time, but it doesn't look like atlas.ti is shipping a universal / apple silicon version atm??? they've had since like 2020 to start shipping apple silicon, and at least 2025 since apple said no more rosetta 2,,

notification toast on macos saying:

woah sick, @zotero.org now shows you papers that have been retracted?! (i think this is in my library when i was doing an essay revisiting os keyes' misgendering machines in 2023)

a red highlighted section in the zotero side bar for the paper 'a rough set theory and deep learning-based predictive system for gender recognition using audio speech' by yasmin et al. (2022). it reads 'this work has been retracted' in bold face, and then shows it was retracted on 15/07/2024 with reasons extracted from the retraction notice. it shows the source for this notice to be retraction watch.

(for context, the kernel version jump meant that the kernel components vbox need couldn't be built, as it's expecting 6 instead of 7, so i reverted to kernel 6. this got vbox to open and the vm to boot, but i just get this)

also great are the "it's not you, it's nvivo" sections, a great help for nvivo's (various) pain points

call out on website that reads:

Despite there being a Queries > Coding Matrices section, we do not use that for creating a new Matrix Coding Query. That section is where you can find the saved results from a Matrix Query. And the eagle eyed may have the following questions:

There is a ‘Query Results’ section, which is used to save query results, so why also have a separate ‘Coding Matrices’ section to save coding matrix results?
You create a ‘Matrix Coding Query’, but its results are referred to as a ‘Coding Matrix’?

The answer to both is ‘Yes, but no idea why - that’s just NVivo being NVivo’.

i also made this slide for my supervisor, as they’re introducing cs conversion masters students to our research group (this was a struggle to do in gnu image manipulation program)
