This has been more or less where my worldview has settled: sex is "real" inasmuch as it is a function of how it is measured. Both sides of the ruler give lengths, but not the same numbers. The push for an essentialist binary hampers the ability to describe the world to no offsetting benefit.

A paragraph from Eppley et al.'s 2026 commentary in Ecology Letters, reading: "The field can disrupt misinformation by developing clear standards for the ways in which sex is described. The text of the bill that Newsom vetoed ITSELF contained the language that said people could not be kicked out of sober housing for relapsing!

Mr. Newsom argued that state funds can already be used for sober housing, but guidance he released made clear — literally in bold text — that people can’t be kicked out of state-funded homes for using drugs only. A place that allows drug use is not a sober home.

This has nothing to do with good album design except inasmuch as they obeyed the inviolable principle of "put Chesley Bonestell shit on the front". (Most of the rest of Shellac's stuff is the Extremely Tasteful '90s Minimalism(tm), although they at least tried to be funny about it.)
