Steve Mulroy @mulroyda.bsky.social · 07/08/2025⚖️What is the difference between DISPOSITION and DEPOSITION? 🤔 These common legal terms sound similar but are nothing alike. However, they can be easy to confusion unless you hear them and use them on a regular basis. #legalterms #Memphis #publicsafety 141

Steve Mulroy @mulroyda.bsky.social · 31/07/2025⚖️What does precedent mean?⚖️ A follower asked that I define this word that we hear often in nationally significant court cases. However, even if we don't hear it, precedent is always quietly at play in local and state-level decisions. As the definition says, precedent is not ironclad. 010

Steve Mulroy @mulroyda.bsky.social · 22/07/2025We know legal jargon can be confusing. Victims, defendants, and t loved ones need to understand what is happening in the criminal justice process. Even if you’ve never come into direct contact with the system, you may at some point, and it helps to have a working knowledge of common legal terms. 000
Steve Mulroy @mulroyda.bsky.social · 17/07/2025Yesterday, I was joined by law enforcement to announce that a 3-judge panel ruled in favor of our office’s efforts to fight illegal gambling devices. Since summer of 2022, we have seized more than 268 machines, $1 million in cash, and found ties to firearms and suspected money laundering. 010
Steve Mulroy @mulroyda.bsky.social · 16/07/2025Here are some more thoughts about jury duty. Some people don’t mind so much showing up, but they don’t want to be seated. We often see jury selection depicted in media where a person expresses some issue with serving, and they’re dismissed. But in reality, it’s not that easy. #juryduty #Memphis 010
Steve Mulroy @mulroyda.bsky.social · 15/07/2025This is one of many data points we are continuously tracking. Steve Mulroy @mulroyda.bsky.social · 01/07/2025At the risk of over-taxing your tea, you should know that shooting commercial-grade fireworks is illegal across Shelby County without a permit. Steve Mulroy @mulroyda.bsky.social · 25/06/2025With a growing number of violent crimes being committed against elected and appointed officials across the country, it is important that incidents like these are taken seriously. Steve Mulroy @mulroyda.bsky.social · 24/06/2025Thanks to all of you who contacted commissioners and helped make this happen. In a landmark decision, the Shelby County Board of Commissioners voted on Monday to approve the first-ever locally funded crime lab in county history. We didn’t get everything but this is a great start’ #crimelab 010
Steve Mulroy @mulroyda.bsky.social · 20/06/2025Monday, June 23rd, the Shelby County Commission will vote on funding for a focused crime lab in Shelby County. We need your help. Steve Mulroy @mulroyda.bsky.social · 18/06/2025Two legal terms you are probably hearing more often are "Due Process" and "Habeas Corpus." These are foundational principles in the law that cannot be ignored. A failure to provide it has the potential to deny an innocent person their freedom or allow a guilty person to go free. #dueprocess 042

Steve Mulroy @mulroyda.bsky.social · 12/06/2025“Clemency," "commute," and "pardon" have been in the news frequently, but some people confused. Steve Mulroy @mulroyda.bsky.social · 10/06/2025Randy Johnson was found guilty in the murder of Jazmin Jones in 2023. Johnson shot Jones in her driveway and tampered with evidence. A digital forensic expert provided critical testimony about Johnson’s cell usage. This shows why Mayor Harris & I asked the Commission to fund a focused local lab. 010
Steve Mulroy @mulroyda.bsky.social · 05/06/2025A 19-year-old man tied to car thefts in Nashville and Memphis is being held on a $500K bond after our team argued he poses a continued threat to public safety. Steve Mulroy @mulroyda.bsky.social · 22/05/2025The DOJ’s decision wasn’t based on a conclusion that Memphis, specifically, lacks problems needing correction, but rather a regrettable wholesale rejection of civil rights investigation and oversight of police practices around the country. That’s not something we should celebrate… #DOJ 020
Steve Mulroy @mulroyda.bsky.social · 20/05/2025There has been a lot of conversation over the last few days since the FBI Director called Memphis the "homicide capital of America." Violent crime in Memphis is unacceptably high. However, the trend continues downward. We still have a lot of work to do so we can all feel safer. #publicsafety 030
Steve Mulroy @mulroyda.bsky.social · 15/05/2025#ICYMI Here are 3 recent cases that are just a sampling of the significant work our team in the DA's office is doing. Steve Mulroy @mulroyda.bsky.social · 29/04/2025We continue to prioritize the prosecution of violent crime. We are dogged in our determination. A case in point is that of Anterious Miles. Steve Mulroy @mulroyda.bsky.social · 23/04/2025For nearly a year, I have been battling to stop an effort to remove me from office. Steve Mulroy @mulroyda.bsky.social · 17/04/2025Sen. Taylor has been working like a one-legged cat in a sandbox to remove me from office. He passed a res. Asking the Sup. Steve Mulroy @mulroyda.bsky.social · 16/04/2025ADA Rob Steele, successfully argued for a higher bond in the case against Bernice Jarrett, the caregiver accused of neglecting six vulnerable adults—one of whom died.
