The countdown (2 March – 27 July 2027) will be in two formats: a simple list for easy reference (top menu), and a text commentary (homepage).

For the latter, I want to make sure we give every one of the 720 qualifiers some time. To this end, if you have something – anything – to say about any qualifying song, please send it to me at nonoxcol2018@gmail.com, or via DM to the challenge account.

This doesn’t have to be an essay or even a blurb – that request didn’t really fly for the #1C000LEST top 50. Just a few words on why you think this song is great and earns its place. Or, if you want to be controversial, the opposite.

There are 618 automatic qualifiers already, all listed on IN THE ZONE in the top menu, as well as on the qualifier pages. So, plenty to get your teeth into and 5 months until we even start counting down. Cheers.

The 'dice' and 'free spin' are purely a conceptual aid - an easy way to refer to hiw points are allocated, as people are getting used to it. In this case, it's simply to illustrate how 6pts must be the same decade as 1pt, 5 as 2, 4 as 3.

Eddie completes that hand with a 3 of spades. That's a second spade, after Alan's 7. Meanwhile Fred has decided his 2-7 pointers, but has lots of contenders for 1 point. He might think it's worth dropping an Ace (1) of spades on Bad Romance, in the hope of a later flush (it has ♠️731 now). Etc.

Dave might like it enough to give it 6 or 7. But he could give it a 3 of diamonds instead. This makes a 3 of a kind. it will score extra points for that, over and above what it scored for a pair. It's also then just a 3 of spades away from having 4 of a kind (the second best hand).

Let's do a simple example with Bad Romance. Say it starts with 100 points from qualifying. In round 1 Alan gives it 7 (spades) Bill gives it 3 (hearts). Charlie gives it 3 (clubs). It's got 13pts (113) and gets [unspecified] extra points for a pair of 3s. Dave plans his round 2...

Yes :) Again, as per the text - the hope is that the final countdown is at least partly unpredictable because of that element. The only thing I haven't been explicit about (apart from poker hand points) is whether to give players full picking history on the crib sheet. As yet undecided.

It's meant to be, yes. It says in the 'EFFECTS' section, if a song picks up enough to make more than one valid hand, all hands will score points. All.I can add is that a straight flush will add more to the song's total than 3 of a kind, say, and I will always compile the best hand first.

Yes I understand that, and also that my old 'game' challenges had that competitive element. But it's really just a theme here, which provides extra points for the songs people choose. As with players in some board or video games, songs pick up in-game bonuses. In this case, for poker hands.

1. To award points, as we have always done, but in the form 7-6-5-4-3-2-1 for each round. 2. To try and build the best hand for their favoured songs by a) allocating suits b) using information from the hand rankings and other players' choices because eongs will score additional points for this.

ALL a player needs to know is that a song will receive more extra points depending on how good the hand is. Straight flush will get more extra points than Four of a kind > Full house > Flush > Straight > Three of a kind > Two pair > One pair So every player has two objectives if you like: (cont)
