I don't know man, maybe don't name your defense department the "war department" and maybe don't bomb other countries, schools, or fishing boats indiscriminately. That might just help you a fraction.

In the spirit of the Halloween season, and something I have noticed: I have seen a lot of people while talking about old hospitals refer to them as "hospitals of death" for a spook factor and I am just like yeah, they're hospitals, inevitably people are going to die in them

As someone who is tired of hearing people try and push the myth of the clean Wehrmacht, this is an informative and thorough thread dispelling such myth.

This is something very similar to what I have been arguing about history "being boring" that seeps even into K-12 education, and it all comes back to how it is getting structured and taught that sweets it up for failure and creates this facade of "boringness"

I feel like, just maybe if you are a doctor/surgeon and you receive a referral from another doctor (which you reject) that it would be super helpful if you passed that rejection along to (at minimum) the doctors that sent the referral. Yeah, that would be super cool

amazing how the entire machine can pivot within 24 hours. no need to slowly upsell the argument; just issue new marching orders
Matt Walsh tweeted last year: "We've spent the last 25 years bringing "freedom" and "democracy" to countries around the globe while our own country has been systematically invaded and now our largest cities are run by foreigners and communists. If you want to know why I'm so avowedly non-interventionist, this is why."

Then he tweeted today: ""This is a war for oil!!!!!"

First of all, the "war" lasted like 90 minutes. Second, going to war to secure vital resources for your own people is totally legitimate. Why should we allow some third world communist shithole to control trillions of dollars worth of oil?"Laura Loomer tweeted last year: "I’m America First, I don’t support “Regime Change”. I went on @Bannons_WarRoom to talk about Chinese aggression in Venezuela and why we need to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a foreign Islamic terrorist organization."

Then she tweeted yesterday: "Maduro has arrived at the DEA office in Manhattan. He was transported in an armored motorcade after being transported in a blindfold via helicopter & then by plane to New York after his compound in Caracas was raided by US Special Forces.

Proud to be an American today!

USA 🇺🇸"Catturd tweeted last year: "Name one U.S. inspired regime change that hasn’t ended in absolute disaster."

Then he tweeted yesterday: "Venezuela is now more free than New York City."Will Chamberlain tweeted last year: "The Republican Party is no longer the party of regime change and endless wars

If you want to be its standard-bearer that is a non-negotiable position"

Then he tweeted yesterday: "I can think of few better uses of my tax dollars than black-bagging the head of a foreign narco-trafficking organization that enriches itself by addicting and poisoning my fellow Americans"

So per tradition, here is one of gratitudes: my adorable and wonderful cat. Sir Nigel. He did this a lot more as a kitten but he has started it up again where he perches on my shoulders/arms. He especially likes doing this while I am trying to get ready and leave for work, but I still love him.
Picture of me with my arm stretched out and my adorable cat lying down on said arm, just one of his little antics he tries to pull and delay Me from leaving for work

Screenshot of my weather app showing a high of 12°c and a low of -0°c, yes you saw correctly.... Negative zero. I know it's been a hit minute since I have been in a math class, but I swear I remember being told that wasn't possible.

I have two hot takes here, one of which I will leave unsaid, and the other being that I feel like, much like my opinion on statues of historical figures, we probably shouldn't have holidays in honour of people, but rather focus on commemorating what they stood for.

Trump’s attack on the Smithsonian is a direct assault on the study of history. I try to explain why in my new YouTube video, which I hope you’ll watch, like, and share. Real history provokes us to reflect and wrestle. Trump prefers history that comforts, justifies, and doesn’t speak back.

I'll say it a thousand times -- any account of the past that only celebrates the good parts of a nation without reckoning with the bad is not what we call "history" It is propaganda, pure and simple.

There's a lot of things wrong about this list, especially my field, but one of the things I feel this comes down to is the can/should distinction, sure you "could" but you're never going to get the same quality of critical analysis out of AI that you would a human

I've worked on the 250th **eight years** now. So let me just make two points: 1. If the history community cedes this anniversary to the WH, we'll be left with only the shallow, celebratory stuff and will miss a massive opportunity to provide deep, complex history to people who want it. AND +

Something of a side note, and this might just be more my school of thought, but when talking/teaching history I usually stress is more important to focus on on the who, what, where, and why of historical events than it is is to get /memorize super specific dates.

In regards to the SLC shooting: I am honestly getting tired of the "this isn't who we are" bullshit, this happens (in America) far too often for it not to be a part of our identity. It's long time for us to be honest about it and actually address the systemic issues that keep allowing this to happen

This is the kind of thing you say when you only have a puddle deep understanding of Lee's life. Dude was many things, but none of which he describes here.
Screenshot of a post made by Matt Walsh that reads: "Robert E Lee was a man of great honor and integrity - qualities that his modern critics can't comprehend. He was given the choice between taking up his sword against his home and community and family, or standing beside them in battle. He chose the latter. Any reasonable person can understand why he made that choice."

I saw this post on threads, and since my profile there is set on private I cannot reply to this person's question. Since the greater 80% of my post high school education focused in the study of History, and big portion of that WW2 history, I have some thoughts here I would like to share (1/X)
Screenshot of a threads post that reads Question:
"I inherited some old military pins and medals and such from a relative who passed recently and one of them is a nazi pin.
(Assuming it's a "spoils of war?) And my gut reaction is to destroy it.
What's the proper thing to do?"

A general understanding of how the US Interstate system works and cardinal directions. There are these things called signs they installed on the side of the road that also help let you know far away you are from towns, cities, and places of interest. Maps also helped, still have a handful in my car.

Yeah, still not for sure I want to go back just yet, scaling back≠eliminating. Duolingo dress themselves as an educational app, and AI has no business in education so far as I see it, honestly it has no place in academia but that is another story.
Ground news summary of what news articles are saying about Duolingo "scaling back" their use of AI in the language App. Important to note they are only reversing course because of the backlash. Articles seen to suggest that this reversal means they "value" human roles, but the fact that they wanted to eliminate human roles in the first place suggests otherwise.
