So, as much as I think the Orzhov Niv Miz is a pretty decent Flavour Win, one of the better Echoverse desgins imo, practically it's a pretty clunky Well of Lost Dreams. Some may say less versatile depnding on how you want to use it. I wouldn't choose Niv over Well in my Karlov list for example

Sometimes you come across an alternative printing of a card that, despite the og being awesome, becomes your main jam instantly

I really don't think that we gave Edge of Eternities its due for the flavour and art direction. Just looking through the mono black cards alone this was a Sci-fi set that manged to be spooky, fantastical and brutal in ways a most other "fantasy" sets have lacked scryfall.com/search?as=gr...

I still think about this key art from Lost Caverns of Ixalan regularly. This to me is the perfect level of pop culture homage and inspiration and why Duskmourn at the time felt heavy handed in comparison. I hope we go back to Ixalan several more times and get lots more of this

Sometimes you refind a card that reminds you exactly why your fav colour is indeed your fav colour. The ability+the flavour text+the art=easily slotted into 3 decks (Karlov, Eirdu//Isilu, Volrath)

Very excited that this arrived today! We need to first review the #MtgStrixhaven Web fiction, but fear not, we will be chasing it up swiftly this month with a full review of @seananmcguire.bsky.social's Omens of Chaos. Honestly can't wait. #Vorthos #mtg

The #mtg offering from a UK highstreet retailer (that I really rate for the record). One lone Lorwyn Precon and the rest is TMNT and ATLA. Either Lorwyn was so popular that it flew off the shelves, or UB is too lucrative to waste shelf space on other products. Either way I think this blows.

Just picked up some packs from 'Got it, Got it, Need it' in Margate and they had some #Adventuretime Play Packs from Cryptozoic Entertainment in stock. What a strange little product. (Stoked that I pulled a "Princess Glitter" Princess Bubble Gum!)

#mtgstrixhaven is only the 2nd(?) return set of a previous Plane that was also itself a solo-set, and like Wilds Of Eldraine it's absolutely ramping up all the best elements of it's first slightlty mid outing and tweaking some of it's less popular aspects. It's looking so good!

Loving this April 1st aesthetic from @scryfall.com! The internet done right

030

Magic The Flavouring @mtflavouring.bsky.social · 11/03/2026

#mtg hot take: If they binned Companion and picked either the Pokémon lite buddy theme OR the Kaiju/monster hunter theme and committed to it, then Ikoria would be a banger return set. The human factions and Biomes alone are far more interesting than the setting got credit for.

Obviously, we have such little info to go on. But as soon as I saw these new starters I just thought, Fennekin, Rowlet, Sobble/Treeko I really really hope the evolutions are interesting, and please keep one quadraped in the mix! #pokemon

#mtg shower thought: Do we rekon that Daybound//Nightbound was being primed as a #mtglorwyn mechanic, but because it bombed, they went with the activated transform instead? It's kind of sad that the day/night symbols aren't on the Lorwyn cards, even though the mechanic is obviously clunky

Magic The Flavouring @mtflavouring.bsky.social · 17/01/2026

#mtglorwyn is so fun! Played Pre-release and went to battle with W/G Kithkin. Although the real MVP was Eirdu//Isilu that won almost every game it was played (which was alot, very lucky draws). Def gonna be my first #edh build of the year, may even have a deck ready for Monday night games...

Magic The Flavouring @mtflavouring.bsky.social · 11/01/2026

Got it all sorted ready for my big divider boxes and then found another misc bundle box worth of cards...that's a job for another day I guess. But the decks got dismantled and thanked for their service, which is the main thing.

Magic The Flavouring @mtflavouring.bsky.social · 11/01/2026

Sat in my narrowboat with the fire burning, spending a cozy winters Sunday tackling my magic pile of shame... 4 Edh decks to be dismantled, 1 bundle box of rares, 3 small boxes of misc cards and 11 opened boosters, all for sorting #mtg #edh

Wow wow wow! This set looks beautiful! Too many arts to talk about but Aurora Awakener is a bit of me for sure, and I'm gonna put money on this Plains art being spoken about for years to come as a fan fav. #mtglorwyneclipsed

To be clear, I loved Dragon storm. But the made very strange choices for these clans. What happened to the Abzan scaled armour? Nothing in the lore accounts for this huge shift. The other clans didn't change as dramatically with the arrival of the spirit dragons...

000

Magic The Flavouring @mtflavouring.bsky.social · 30/12/2025

Here's my "hot" take for 2025 They ruined the aesthetic of the Sultai and Abzan clans. One's purple with gold and green, the other is green with gold and purple. If some of these cards didn't have flavour text/watermark you wouldn't know who was who.

I'm entering a phase of my indifference/disinterest in UB where I'm becoming re-hyped by magic's high fantasy cards. Look at this thing! I love everything about it, and as such its made its way into multiple decks.

Whenever you cast and enchantment that targets one or more other permanents you control, create a token thats a copy of one of those Pearmanents. Then gain and experience counter. 1WB: Put X 1/1 WB Spirit Enchantment tokens onto the battlefield where X is the number of experience counters you have.
