I think it was part innings management and part needing another quality arm in the bullpen with Suarez missing half the year. He still may not be ready for a full-year workload, he only threw 100 innings this year and 113 last year.

Spencer has two good pitches. Put him in a one-inning role where he can just let it rip instead of trying to pace himself and you probably get some of that lost velo back

Strider could be nails in a closer role and I’m gonna lose my mind if we keep trotting him out there as a starter while seemingly consigning Fuentes to a life in the bullpen
