Big news from Labour Conference: the PM has announced the government's plan to scrap first past the post. Seats that match votes would change British politics for good, but only if it happens. I've added my name. Join me? action.electoral-reform.org.uk/page/201578/...

The PM used his big speech to promise to fix Westminster's broken voting system.
We've heard promises before. I've signed to make sure this one is kept. It takes 30 seconds

Agree. And they don't kick in yet. Have no doubt that - had things not changed - we would have seen measures to help with cost of living announced in the budget (and targeted, rather than universal). Ex-chancellor was disciplined in having one fiscal event per year. This week is performative.

That might be the point, but more important is not letting Farage drive the narrative here. For what it’s worth, the other parties turning their back on Farage speaks volumes for me.

The most disgusting behaviour I’ve ever witnessed in public spaces was directed at Sadiq Khan by ‘anti-Ulez’ protesters, who of course received way more coverage, much of it friendly, than the scheme’s incredible success ever will.

So much more good and important news coming from our Labour government today. But I've worked a very long day today (been at my desk almost non-stop since before 8:30am), so am doing a short summary of key events! 1) The PM meets mayors in drive to get Britain building and take on blockers!

Labour promised to deliver 6500 additional secondary and specialist teachers in their 2024 manifesto. Today, the latest data shows they are 70% of the way there - with 4,654 more teachers. 3,008 more in secondary schools and 1,646 more in further education. 1/3

Torsten Bell work & pensions minister was excellent on BBC this AM. The problem isn't Labour cant communicate - they can't be on tv 24/7. The problem is the media reporting. I didn't know till today NO NI is paid on employees under 21 or apprentices under 25. Yet everyday employers complain 1/2

Subsidising energy consumption in the face of both a short-term supply shock and the long-term need to decarbonise. Bad for the economy, bad for the planet, bad for the world's poor. And *if* you favour a wealth tax (I am sceptical but there's a case) spending it on *this" is just idiotic.
