#Reylo Every instinct screams she’s right to be suspicious, to stall—despite the stolen designer clothes and the fancy accent she puts on, she’s hardly high up on the criminal hierarchy; her racket’s barely more than a street con. Still, the Boss wants to meet her; and no one says ‘no’ to Kylo Ren.

Three days later, her line rang at 11 p.m. "Hi. It's Ben." He paused. "I've done something to the Wi-Fi." Rey laughed again, and somewhere across the city, Ben Solo smiled.

"Wonderful. Is there anything else I can help you with today?" He hesitated. "If something else goes wrong, can I ask for you specifically?" "Sir, nothing else is going to go wrong." "You can't know that." Rey sighed, and despite her better judgement, rattled off her extension.

"Are you laughing at me?" "No," she wheezed. "Absolutely not." On the other end of the line, Ben was quiet for so long she thought he'd hung up. Then, grudgingly, he said, "You have a nice laugh." Rey blinked. "...Is the laptop turning on now?" "Yes."

"Ben?" "...The cord was plugged into the power strip," he said stiffly. "The power strip was not plugged into the wall." Rey tried. She really did. But a laugh burst out of her, bright and helpless, and she slapped a hand over her mouth too late.

"Yes, obviously, I've tried that." "And is it plugged in?" "I am not going to dignify that with an answer." Rey waited, humming softly to herself. On the other end of the line, she heard shuffling, a muffled thud, and then a quiet, defeated curse.

"Ben Solo." "Okay, Ben. Have you tried holding down the power button for ten seconds?" There was a long, offended silence on the line. "I have two master's degrees." "That's wonderful. Have you tried holding down the power button for ten seconds?"

"I have a presentation in two hours, and I want a refund, a replacement, and the name of whoever designed it so I can personally explain how they've failed." Rey propped her chin in her hand. "I'm so sorry to hear that, sir. Can I get your name?"

"Tech support, this is Rey. How can I help you?" "Your product is garbage," said a deep voice, without preamble. "I've owned this laptop for eleven days, and it refuses to turn on."

There was no fear or hesitation in her expression, only a quiet and luminous joy, as if finding him here was the answer to a question she had been asking for a very long time. Then she leaned in and kissed him, and the fog, the ravine, and every long and lonely year behind him fell away.

Her face was streaked with dust and tears, a thin cut bleeding along her cheek, but she had never looked more beautiful to him. Her hazel eyes shone with wonder, and in them he saw everything he had never let himself hope for. Recognition. Forgiveness, given freely and without condition.

The bond flared back to life between them, brighter than it had ever been. Her light poured into him, flooding the hollow place her absence had carved, and he felt energy warming him like sunshine. "Ben," she whispered. Rey looked at him as though she were seeing him for the first time.

Beneath his hand, Rey drew a sharp breath. Her eyes found his, and slowly, and she rushed to sit up. Ben could barely see her through the tears blurring his vision, but he felt her hand rise to his face, her fingers warm and alive against his cheek.

Then he pressed his palm to her stomach, closed his eyes, and gave her everything. He poured his life into her the way she had once poured hers into him, every ounce of light he had buried and every breath he had left, until he felt warmth begin to bloom beneath his hand.

She was so quiet. Her eyes were open, but there was nothing in them, and her hand was cold when he took it. He pulled her into his arms and held her against his chest, and for a moment he could not breathe at all.

... and gathered every last scrap of the Force he had left. It surged through his battered body like fire, and he hurled himself upward, clawing over the lip of the ravine and dragging himself across the ground toward the small, still shape lying in the dust. No. No no no no no.

ProfessorRen @ms-professor.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
It felt as though something had been torn out of him by the roots, leaving a raw and hollow wound where she had been, and for a moment he could not move or think. No. He would not let it end like this. Ben reached deep into himself, past the pain and the exhaustion...

He called to her through the bond, but she was slipping away from him, her light dimming and dimming no matter how hard he held on. Between one heartbeat and the next, the bond that had bound them went utterly silent, and the silence was worse than any pain Ben had ever known.

He lost track of how long he had been climbing. The fog pressed in on all sides, and the lightning flashed and faded until time seemed to blur into nothing but the next handhold and the next. He cried out when Rey began to falter, flickering like a candle caught in a sudden wind.

ProfessorRen @ms-professor.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Twice his strength gave out, and he hung there against the cliff, trembling and panting, his forehead pressed to the cold rock while the darkness whispered that he could simply let go. Both times, he reached for Rey, a steady glow above the fog, and he forced his aching body to move again.

ProfessorRen @ms-professor.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
He reached for Rey. She shone through the fog like the brightest of stars. She was still fighting, but she was losing. Ben braced his hand on the wet stone wall and gritted his teeth. Then, he started to climb. Every breath pierced his chest. His fingers slipped more than once.

Despite using the Force to soften his fall, Ben knew his ribs and his leg were broken. He was sprawled helplessly on his back, staring up at the jagged gap where darkness was broken only by flashes of lightning. Fog crept along the rubble around him, and his breath was visible in the bitter cold.

He had no right to demand anything of her. Yet as he stared at her, a thread, as thin as spider silk, stretched between them. When he fled the room, that tether pulled taut across the ship. And Rey had the strangest feeling that she'd given him something after all.

But then she remembered where she was and how she got here. Rey narrowed her eyes and gritted her teeth. Between them, energy buzzed like a power cell coming back to life. She seized it with both hands and shoved. He staggered back, his breathing ragged. Dark, unreadable eyes went wide with shock

Curling her fingers against the restraints, Rey dug in, found her footing, and pushed. The storm faltered, and suddenly she was the one standing in his wreckage, the space cramped and aching. A boy, scared and alone. For one treacherous heartbeat, her chest tightened

Her heart slammed a frantic beat against her ribs. Kylo's intrusion hit like a sandstorm, scouring her mind raw. She felt herself shaking, sinking into memories that he plucked like wires from her mind: the dunes, the ration lines, the long nights dreaming of cliffs and oceans and family.

"Now you're going to give it to me," he demanded, and that large gloved hand reached toward her face. Rey jerked back, but there was no where to go. The chair held her upright and tilted, the cold metal biting into her wrists and ankles. Machinery hummed, indifferent to her panic.

But the unanswered question still stood, and he couldn't ask Snoke. His mother might know. He pushed the thought away before it could hurt. He determined to think of Rey instead. Rey, and the sound of rain.

He asked, calmly, why the Force was connecting them. She called him a murderous snake. It was a fair assessment. When connection faded, his hand was cold and his glove wet. If he listened, he could still hear the rain.

ProfessorRen @ms-professor.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Kylo sat up at the sound, unfamiliar after so many years. It never rained in space, and judging by Rey's soft smile and outstretched hand, it never rained on Jakku either. It was nice, not being glared at or shot at or sliced open with a saber. She froze when she sensed him.

Then she was up and moving, tugging her hair into buns. "Put the caf on," she called over her shoulder. "And next time, listen to me." "And rob you of the chance to gloat? I'd never be so cruel." She threw a rag at his head. He caught it, grinning, and put the caf on.

"Sorry, the hyperdrive's so loud—" "You were right!" he exclaimed, and she laughed, dimples flashing, then pulled him down by the collar. She planted a loud smacking kiss on his mouth. As usual, he was stuck dumb by her easy affection. She'd met him at his worst. She'd stayed anyway.

ProfessorRen @ms-professor.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
"I didn't break anything. The ship is throwing a code." "Which code?" "The coupling one." Both eyes opened now. She sat up, grinning, and it was unbearable. "The coupling that was fine?" "Don't." "Say it." He closed his eyes. "You were right."

ProfessorRen @ms-professor.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
He tried rerouting, but the Falcon only groaned at him. So he padded back to the bunk, where Rey was sprawled on the bed. He crouched down. "Rey." He was met with a small snore. "Sweetheart," he said, louder. One green eye cracked open. "What'd you break?" she asked around a yawn.

ProfessorRen @ms-professor.bsky.social · 27/09/2026
The Falcon coughed out a code at 0300. Ben stared at the blinking panel, then at the hydrospanner in his hand, then at the panel again. He knew this code. He'd seen it three weeks ago, when Rey said "the coupling's going to go, Ben," and he said it's fine, and she said "it's not fine."

Rey laughed before she could stop herself, bright and startled. His whole face changed, like he'd just won a million-dollar grant. She cleared her throat, schooled her expression, and uncapped a fresh pen. "Page one. We're starting over."
170
ProfessorRen @ms-professor.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
She leaned in, softer. "You're the best student I've had, Ben. Don't make me watch you set yourself on fire to prove a point." He looked at her for a long moment, dark eyes unreadable, ears going pink. "...'Why Most People Are Wrong'?" he suggested.

ProfessorRen @ms-professor.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
The small smirk slipped. "They'd cut me off over a title?" "They'd cut you over chapter seven. It's just called 'Dr. Palpatine.'" "He's wrong." "He's the chair." Ben's jaw tightened, and he shoved his hair back off his face. No graduate student had any business looking like that.

ProfessorRen @ms-professor.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Rey swallowed dryly and flipped to the cover, very deliberately not looking at his hair. "'Why Everyone Is Wrong'...?" His wide mouth twitched. "It's accurate." "It's brilliant," she said, and watched those dark eyes light up. "Which is the problem. The funding committee meets Friday."

Professor Rey Niima sighed and capped her red pen. It had run dry on page 52. "Mr. Solo. Your dissertation is 540 pages. The limit is 300." He folded his hands on the desk between them, and a silky black wave fell into his eyes. "I'm aware."
