Definitely to both those points. The challenge is huge for parents especially as the technology shifts so quickly; we not only have to learn it, we have to understand enough to know what will and won’t harm our children and what to do about it.

I find no matter how good or extensive the teaching at school, unless parents are aware of the issues too and get on board with preventing them, there is a massive disconnect between lessons and reality. Chn learn to give the correct answers in class but enacting them is much harder.

We don’t do the E*f on the S***f thing (can’t cope!) but have another advent tradition instead: I put a note in this each day with a fun Christmassy thing to do/find. It allows me to do stuff we already have planned (eg go to school Christmas fair) but also cop out and do chocolate if I forget!

Zap map is a brilliant app for finding chargers when out and about, and the comments are especially useful - they tell you if the charger was working earlier that day etc.

By bedtime I mean ‘when they’re actually asleep’ 😂 Yes we’re doing a lot of playing around with that at the moment. Time to just ‘be’ mixed with reconnection with us and as you say, fresh air and screen time too. A dance is a good way of putting it… and it changes every week!!

My son’s in foundation and I know he is so eager to please and follow all the new rules (including a lot of social ones) that he meets me and does exactly that because he’s totally spent. I get it, but those hours after school up to bedtime can be really challenging!

I have also been introduced to the realities of ‘masking’, that thing where they’re totally fine at school all day and then come home and totally lose it! Perfectly normal by my oh my 😂
