I was thinking of the values we try to instil in our tamariki at kura- participation, respect, integrity, determination & empathy. I could say that he shows great determination, but not the rest. Participation maybe? He does participate in parliament but wants to change the rules to suit himself.

Judith Collins - like Delores Umbridge but more devious and less likeable.

Did you hear the incredulous laughter when he said that though? My guess is that like when they said that teachers earned over $140k and nurses averaged $125k, that figure is completely wrong.

It could be worse. The streets could be littered with the real scourge accordingtothis government...road cones!

It's the next logical step from making student allowances dependent on parental income, which is also ridiculous. This might be a tolerable policy if there were plenty of jobs and young people were just choosing not to work, but when there aren't the jobs, it is kicking people when they're down.

Also the top 2 presidents for shutting down the government are Trump and Bill Clinton - both buddies of Epstein. Does this mean that #Epstein is the true winner in the race to the government shutdown league tables?

Mrs W @mrsw.bsky.social · 04/10/2025
The one before that was 3 days & so far this one has been 3 days. Which makes him the president with the most shutdown days in history-the best at grinding the government to a halt! As he said, he's the best at everything and as far as government shutdowns go, I'd have to agree

Mrs W @mrsw.bsky.social · 04/10/2025
As Mr Trump told the United Nations recently, he's never wrong. Since 1980 the US government has shut down for a total of 89 days (in Reagan's time 2 shutdowns were just for a few hours). .Last shutdown under Mr Trump's watch was 35 days. Last shutdown under Mr Trump's watch was 35 days.

Oh, and illness etc is justified absence, but that doesn't change that we're aiming for 90%. So when we've had an outbreak of strep throat, Covid and flu, we're still somehow supposed to get 90% of children attending 90% of the time with no provision for leaving off justified absences.

Mrs W @mrsw.bsky.social · 18/09/2025
So the teachers , support staff, principals and MOE field staff, the nurses, the doctors, firefighters and...are all just selfish money-grabbing meanies who are determined not to settle for a reasonable offer and just want to upset the public?
000
Mrs W @mrsw.bsky.social · 18/09/2025
Our attendance average each day for the whole year is 89% which you would think was pretty good. But they're only interested in the number of children whose attendance is over 90%. We have 54% in that category which is considered bad-we're supposed to be aiming for 90% of children at 90% attendance.
122
Mrs W @mrsw.bsky.social · 18/09/2025
As someone with responsibility for attendance at my kura, I'm with you. We have medically fragile children whose attendance is below 50% and others who have equally good reasons for absence. We also have a lot of children from overseas who need to go back to visit whānau at times.

#Maga thinks the threat to them is from the left, but it is actually from their own children, who have been taught to fear and to hate, but are now starting to think for themselves. They've been trained as a weapon against a perceived enemy but those weapons are turning on their makers.

I've had at least 4 on my FB feed so far. I put up the image with a whole heap of the awful things he said, and added
I feel for Charlie Kirk's family and friends and no one should be murdered. I also have some concerns about the way that his death has been reported. He is being lauded as a clever debater and as a Christian. He certainly said he was a Christian. However the Bible says "by their fruit you will know them" and that fruit is the fruit of the Spirit - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. We can be sad for the people who loved him and angry that he was murdered, but we must not act as though the things he stood for were either reasonable or Christian. He is not a Christian martyr. There is a difference between Christian Nationalism and Christianity and the gap between the two seems to be growing. These are some of the problematic things he said:

Our government invited the US to set up an FBI base here. The US attack on a civillian Venezuelan ship is a war crime. Russia and Israel are also committing war crimes. Trump is warmongering. The scary part for me isn't the likelihood of a world war. It's not knowing which side we'll be on. #NZPol

We are really spoilt in Papaioea because we have a choice between Tangi Utikere, who is great, and Teanau Tuiono who is also awesome. Labour tends to keep the electorate seat and they're both on their respective lists. I've voted Teanau recently but have split my vote in the past.

Everyone knows when the contracts expire. If the budget doesn't include inflation-matched increases, the government is not good at budgeting. Putting professionals in confrontational situations where they feel undervalued is never helpful. #NZPol

The system of 2-3 yearly contract negotiations for public servants does not work. The government, whatever their stripes, comes out wanting to keep costs as low as possible. Paying less than inflation is seen as good governance. We could save lots of angst if wages were matched to inflation. #NZPol

The two possibilities are that it came from ACT (who had been stirring up anti-council sentiment that was consolidated around a particular road) or from Christian circles - maybe Christian radio? I'm not sure where but this person is far more angry in their retirement than they were previously.

I'm really interested where this one has come from. I recently saw someone I know, who I would have said was reasonably sensible, commenting on Greens FB posts, They referred to "bussy" & accused the Greens of harboring abusers. This person was also angry about a local roading issue.

Absolutely. I don't trust anything from Amazon, they're notorious for exploiting their workers, and this is likely to have a terrible environmental effect. But even if it was all as Luxon was making out, it still wouldn't be his win.

Mrs W @mrsw.bsky.social · 02/09/2025
The new Amazon data centres were planned a long time before National got in so they're not actually something National can claim credit for & they're predicted to create around the same number of jobs as National has ditched from the public sector. Luxon's proclaiming a win, but it's not his. #NZPol

I liked him better before he started giving the impression that he believes his own publicity. Making fun of himself at fashion week would be ok if it didn't feel like he really thinks he's the coolest guy around. The camp behaviour is fine if that's his personality but not if he's mocking others.

Having a centralised approach would have meant that the advisors came from within the organisation rather than individual councils or groups of councils having to employ consultants.
020
Mrs W @mrsw.bsky.social · 23/08/2025
The other thing that I've heard about recently is that some councils have tried to do the right thing and employed consultants who advised them to get systems that are much more expensive than they need. One council got a ridiculously expensive system and the same again as an (unneeded) backup.

I'm concerned by Judith's threat to outlaw strikes completely. It is bad enough that we can no longer strike outside of our contract negotiations. If your workplace is unsafe, angry emails make less impact than an angry strike. The main power workers have is in their labour. #NZPol

I don't like bagging people, but last season there were a couple of episodes I did watch. Paddy's shtick now seems to be to take a subject he's read an opinion piece on, and mansplain it in a way that proves he doesn't understand the issue at all. Not good for my blood pressure so I turned it off.

Having Karen O'Leary as his sidekick is a crime. She has real world experience as a teacher which is relevant currently, she's clever and she's really funny. I'm sad that I don’t get to watch her because I can't sit through Paddy for the time I'd need to in order to get to her segments.

'Mixed up my messages' - Collins corrects $147K teacher pay claim
Public Service Minister Judith Collins rejects that her comments regarding teachers' pay has harmed their relationship with the government.

When Judith "apologised" for saying teachers earn $147k, she then got another dig in by saying that teachers get 3 months holiday a year. By that measure, do MPs only work on the days parliament is sitting (about 90 days according to Google)? #NZPol

"You can't strike, you're too important" from a judge or government should instantly make you side with the people striking. They're *that* important but they get treated like shit? Nah. Naaaah. Let the government force better conditions.

Just been scrolling through the education gazette vacancies. Not counting principal jobs, the highest salary I've seen in the first 100 job ads was for a HOD at a secondary school. Their management units are $5k (a little more than primary). Total salary $128k. Not $140k Judith. #NZPol

I have no argument about Labour being right wing. I used to support Labour for years but a good 10 years ago I moved to the Greens because Labour has become too right wing for me. I just don't think the dancing example illustrates anything about that.
