“New Harry Potter Spotlight” is being advertised to at least elementary librarians in emails from the scholastic book fair team. I just got one today

We once had our late dog groomed and then on the beach by our house still wearing his jaunty bandana he rolled around in a rotting dead seal

My dad tried to reference and then explain Family Ties to my 12 and 14 year old kids and their first assumption by him saying Alex P Keaten is conservative was that he was a Nazi

In our family we say a few were “born with business cards in their pockets” but it’s not meant in a capitalist sense. We should rework it.

My husband watched Master and Commander for the first time when I was out of town and also ordered a smoker the same weekend. He already was a whiskey drinker or else he would have found the Big 40’s Trifecta all at once

A 150 lb freshman going up against a 250 lb opponent is dangerous but much more so is a 150 lb 14 year old going against a 250 lb stacked 19.5 year old senior whose parents enrolled him in kindergarten at 7 and then also held him back a year

they run to doctors/MAHA and pay to hear what they want. Because our health care system is so broken and we are paying consumers they are incensed it doesn’t work like that and they can’t scream like they do at a nail tech or restaurant manager. Rubbing essential oils on measles works for them

Those women are used to using their money to be served. Same women who couldn’t get nails done or eat salads in a restaurant during early covid & screamed about opening businesses up. They want to go to doctors and be served. When they don’t get “good service” (telling them what they want to hear)

If you are an adult who wants to read with your kids or do audiobooks, the Kingdoms and Empires series is fantastic. It starts with The Extremely Inconvenient Adventures of Brontë Mettlestone. It’s fab for a car ride or to listen to over time and it’s clever and funny even as an adult consumer.

There are better fantasy series to direct kids to. I am an elementary librarian and do this daily. The Conjouraverse by Clayton. Kingdoms and Empires by Moriarty. Chasing Vermeer and sequels by Balliett. Amari and the Night Hunters. Many immersive choices. Moriarty built an incredible world!

Our dog who died in 2023 absolutely loved when my husband started working from home because meetings were whatever. That my husband was trapped in too many meetings was a feature, for Brycee. We bought him a special office bed. Our new puppy is bananas when anyone even wants to walk into the office

Expecting all us 40-somethings to find a new favorite podcast at our advanced ages is a lot to ask. Sincerely, though, I regularly commute to a specialist doctor an hour away and always saved that week’s Distraction for the drive. It made an anxious and unpleasant thing feel more bearable.Thank you

A carpool had a friend’s older brother pick us up because the mom was busy and he played “I Left My Wallet in El Segundo” and I was blown away. Same guy picked us up later that school year which is where I heard Beastie Boys for the first time. He single handedly influenced my lifelong music taste

By &large it’s accepted we cannot compromise one way but we can the other — we can never expect anyone apparently to compromise by the party shifting left and we worry their votes are lost but no one ever hand-wrings that tacking right will lose votes. Votes are votes! But we never try another way
030
mrslibrary.bsky.social @mrslibrary.bsky.social · 18/08/2026
People stop voting when their politicians go beyond their values. Democrats tacking right means left voters don’t want to vote for them. Democrats have indeed tried to capture those voters with the few progressive candidates and won but the party at large resists this, to their detriment

mrslibrary.bsky.social @mrslibrary.bsky.social · 18/08/2026
The current base of the democrats does not account for the many many people who don’t vote bc that current base is R-lite. If people want to vote for republican ideals they can vote for actual republicans! There is no party with centrists running the democrats for anyone slightly left to vote for

Grandma, what was 1991 like? Local craftsmen worked primarily in puffy paint. There were dozens of concussions due to bath bead goop detritus. My Grandpa spent his days in his LaZBoy but no one knows what he looked like because of the indoor smoke. We had something called “health insurance”

Without exaggeration, more than half of the parent volunteers in my elementary library tell me that they loved Book It! As a kid and it made them read more OR that they weren’t judged for reading so much even when it wasn’t “cool” because everyone understood hustling for a personal pan pizza

None of the deranged men with vaccine skepticism have ever gone to the pediatrician with their child and witnessed a vaccine being given. They aren’t participatory in core parenting at all so they can make up shit and believe it forever

My almost 15 year old has been sleeping until 2pm and he had to wake up at 7:30am for orientation today and he looked so unmoored. It reminded me of when he used to wake up as a toddler from a nap and briefly didn’t know where he was or how he got there

The same people who want back to the monoculture of 1950-1985 are the party who would be killed when a monocultured press mostly interested in governance reported on actual things occurring, and it blasted thru everyone’s evening, daily. Imagine Walter Cronkite credulous about crypto or Benghazi

With a 28.5 ball it’s easier to launch when you’re coming from a mens game. This is why my dad or my husband have an advantage playing me on a park court. I think he would be a rebounder who could launch it but he won’t be able to shoot for a year bc he will continually bank it in a bananas fashion

Endometriosis specialist literally patted me on head & told me to see a psychiatrist bc what I described pain placement wise was “so rare it couldn’t be real.” A GOOD surgeon last yr spent 12 hours excising, removing 2 organs, resectioning others. 8 day hospital stay. Couldn’t get it all in 12 hrs.
