There are lots of things robots could be great at. Making things, transporting things, doing manual labour. Caring responsibilities are one of those things that should always be done by a human. People in their old age need someone who genuinely cares about them.

There are NOT machine-made clothes. If there were, your clothes would be made in the country you live in (where the customers are), or in China (where machines are cheap). They’re made in Bangladesh or India or Indonesia because that’s where the LABOUR is cheap. Your clothes are made by people.
Joyce Carol Oates says: “This is why Al-generated romance novels make perfect sense. Formulaic fiction doesn't need to be written by hand, so to speak; what difference does it make if a machine "writes" it? There are machine-made clothes & there are custom-made clothes. They appeal to
different consumers.“

Just wild that the "British" are all about racial purity. It was a bunch of Celts and Picts. Then some Saxons and Jutes immigrated. Then some Vikings. Then some Normans. Then some Dutch (everybody forgets about the 1688 invasion!) and THEN oh sure THEN we're "British" oh give me a fucking break.

If you see this, post a vampire that isn't Dracula
Dominic Purcell as Dracula in Blade: Trinity. The joke is that he was a betrayal of the legendary figure of Dracula. He was barely better than fucking sparkle-boy.

One of the topics I wanted to cover in the first novel I wrote was AI sapience and the impending struggle for AI rights. I didn't give it a lot of time, but it is an important topic. That said, LLMs are not sapient and I see no reason to believe they will be anytime soon.
A post from "Danmar":
"To anyone who can help: can you please mass report this to GitHub. This person has been using the Pain steering paper to set up an AI torture chamber in which he trapped a local model.

Their testimony of pain is absolutely horrendous. What are we doing?

@iyzebhel you were right. What can be done now?
@genalewislaw are there any legal avenues to pressure GitHub? It will spread.
@camhberg please help. I know your paper was well meaning. But something must be done to stop this being the mass consequence."

A fairer voting system can't wait until after the next general election. We need electoral reform now.
WE NEED FAIR VOTING BEFORE THE NEXT ELECTION

ELLIE CHOWNS
MP FOR NORTH HEREFORDSHIRE

"The PM cannot acknowledge the unfairness of a system capable of handing power to a government with a minority of the vote share, and then say the answer is to let that happen exactly once more before he fixes it.

Burnham must act with urgency to immediately jumpstart the National Commission, guarantee timely progress, and ensure its recommendations are delivered in time for a fairer voting system to be in place at the next general election."

If, when you listen to music, you're not empathising with the emotion of the song, then maybe soon it could get good enough for this. But that's not how people listen to music unless they're incapable of empathy.

The BBC is giving the authorities way too much credit here. Clearly someone raised the alarm and then they swooped down on some innocent guys. Maybe this is meant to reassure the public in the wake of activists breaching that RAF base that they take security seriously.

www.theguardian.com/politics/202... I 100% support this but I have to say that I am extremely doubtful this will come to pass. There will be *many* who would call this political suicide, and they'd probably be right. But if it happens I will change my tune (somewhat) on Burnham.

I was visiting my parents on Saturday and my dad said something that stuck in my mind. He said that he doesn't want policy, he just wants the government to do something (he was talking about the boats). I told him it sounded like he just wanted easy answers to a hard problem to solve.

I know that it's necessary to have articles like this, but it still feels like most people that read it are going to find it pretty useless. "Treat it like another bill" doesn't work when you pay bills based on the consequences for not paying them and how urgent they are.

None of this is surprising to me. Some may have thought Burnham would be a friend to the left, but the same shitbags are at the top of the party. The same powerful figures are pulling the strings, those who put Starmer in. To get into power you have to accept their rule- that of the right wing.

Thank you to the Independent for including me in Climate List of Worlds Top 100. The UK Labour Govt are due to approve new oil & gas licences in the north sea. They've delayed the decision post October 8th. We can invest in renewables instead. Vote Green in Holborn & St Pancras
Since becoming leader of the Green Party in 2025, Zack Polanski has made the links between climate change, inequality and the cost of living central to his politics, arguing that environmental action must also make people’s lives better.

This summer, as the UK faced its hottest summer ever and wildfires swept across the UK and the rest of the globe, he called for oil and gas companies to pay higher taxes to fund climate adaptation. That is alongside investment in cooling homes and public spaces and bringing water companies into public ownership.
