I've spent the last month working on a side-project: a documentary history of my house - deeds, censuses, estate maps, newspaper archives. Real archive work too, days in local libraries and record offices, not just a laptop and 400 browser tabs. What a massive nerd. #devon

The 1889 Ordinance Survey Map of the neighbourhood

A timeline of the various occupants of the house, starting with the farmer who grazed his cattle on land owned by the Duke of Somerset in the mid-1800s.

Fun with type and layout - The page is super text heavy, as you might expect, so I've tried to break it up with varied layout and rhythm to make it a bit less of a slog.

The essay itself is really just the tip of the iceberg. I still have lots of evidence to gather and add, and a bunch of side quests to go on.

There was a lot of sea and sky this morning, but also a lot of people. Gonna have to start getting out earlier to avoid the throngs of tourists over the summer. My contemplative morning observations of the sea aren’t quite as contemplative when there are hundreds of people making a racket.
