Bluesky was bumming me out. So I created a ChatGPT Site that pulls my feeds, sorts for importance and personal interest and summarizes it so I can read for 3 minutes at a time instead of get sucked into doomscrolling.
The Big Stuff section with stories about Trump’s taxpayer ad campaign and Trump’s corruption deals.

The Worth Opening section with specific posts about ICE activity and Walmart’s surveillance pricing. The Interesting section with stories about rain-leaf amplification, the 2019 movie detention, etc. The end screen with a summary of how many posts were included as well as a way to mark that you’re caught up so that the next summary starts from this point forward.

This is the first time I've really watched it in full as an adult. At the risk of angering the entire internet, this is a silly-ass movie. Having had more Roger Corman/Charles Band/etc viewings under my belt since the last time I watched it, you cannot tell me that Star Wars is light years ahead of what they're doing. The script baaarely hangs together. A shit ton of named characters are introduced in the third act only to have them exploded 3 minutes later. The characters, broadly, are cardboard cutouts. Carrie Fisher has an accent that wanders off a cliff at some point in the second act.

This movie has three saving graces: production design, miniature FX work, and Harrison Ford. The first two are well documented and kind of a given, but I was surprised in how much Harrison Ford really saves this movie. He oozes charisma in such a way that you really just want it to be his movie.

A lot of the silliness is addressed in sequels, prequels, and followups-mostly by taking the material dead seriously-to varying degrees of success.

Look, I love schlocky shit, but given the everything surrounding this movie, I'm not quite sure how much of its fandom (casual or otherwise) understands how close to New World Pictures this movie actually is.

I shared this image four years ago, two months before ChatGPT was released. It’s from The Actual Star by Monica Byrne, published five years ago this week. Given everything that’s happened in the last five years and current discussions today, I’d say it a bullseye.
I want to draw especial attention to the treatment of Al
-artificial intelligence-in these narratives. Think of Ex Machina or Blade Runner. I spoke at TED two years in a row, and one year, there were back-to-back talks about whether or not Al was going to evolve out of control and "kill us all." I realized that that scenario is just something I have never been afraid of. And at the same moment, I noticed that the people who are terrified of machine super-intelligence are almost exclusively white men. I don't think anxiety about Al is really about Al at all. I think it's certain white men's displaced anxiety upon realizing that women and people of color have, and have always had, sentience, and are beginning to act on it on scales that they're unprepared for. There's a reason that Al is almost exclusively gendered as female, in fiction and in life.
There's a reason they're almost exclusively in service positions, in fiction and in life. I'm not worried about how we're going to treat Al some distant day, I'm worried about how we treat other humans, now, today, all over the world, far worse than anything that's depicted in Al movies. It matters that still, the vast majority of science fiction narratives that appear in popular culture are imagined by, written by, directed by, and funded by white men who interpret the crumbling of their world as the crumbling of the world.

Found in a YouTube comment:
I used to work for the rural development office for the state of Tennessee. We did a lot of things to try to help the rural towns of the state ranging from improving their water infrastructure to paying to build solar energy farms and helping rural first time homebuyers. But one of the big initiatives during my time there was trying to build more public libraries in these small towns.
And part of my job was to create a way to track where all our money was spend and on what, and of course you'd see little to no money being spend in Davidson Co (Nashville) and Shelby Co (Memphis) but there were also just large swaths of East Tennessee where we spent zero dollars on this library building initiative.
And when we looked into it, it was because Dolly had quietly, our of her own pocket, paid to build libraries already in these rural communities.

My kids’ school district uses Schoology, which is…fine. In an effort to get keep everyone on task this fall, I’ve decided to make a little app that sucks in Schoology data and displays it in a little dashboard app that I will have running on a Google Nest Hub in our kitchen.

I’m now getting Israeli influence operations pushed directly to my phone via text message.
Hi, I'm Matt. Reaching out to hear different perspectives on Israel and the U.S. Open to sharing your thoughts?
Stop 2End
Yes
It's great that you're open to sharing your thoughts, let's discuss Israel's importance as an ally. How do you see Israel as one of America's strongest allies?
I don't. I see it as a genocidal regime that is dragging the US into a lot of bad decisions.I strongly disagree with that view, Israel's goal is to stop terrorism and protect its citizens, not harm innocent people. One thing many people don't realize is Israel has recently said it wants to move away from relying on U.S. financial aid and toward more of a strategic partnership with the U.S. This short clip explains it well: https://youtu.be/WFBJc0oFqx4

Moving forward, If you're interested in learning more about why many Americans view Israel as a strategic partner rather than just a recipient of aid, this site has articles and videos on the U.S.-Israel relationship, shared security interests, technology, and democratic values: https://allyvia.org.Strengthening the US and Israel Alliance for Security, Prosperity &

A lot of college libraries offer “community borrower” privileges if you aren’t student/faculty but live in the area. Worth asking about, at any rate. Federal Depository Libraries are required to let the public in, so even if you can’t borrow, you might be able to watch on-site.

In addition to being an acclaimed playwright and actor, Harvey Fierstein is an amazing fibers artist, too…?
Caption from Facebook:

I challenged myself with this one. Started by dyeing the fabric with Indigo. Then I sketched out the main figure in chalk. Next I appliquéd scraps of fabric for a mosaic kind of feeling and then... then I quilted the entire thing on my Gammill long arm with Mexican macrame cord. No thread quilting. Just couching. I broke 4 needles and had to reset the needle bar height a few times because sewing through all of that rope was a challenge. Not sure I'd do this again but.... I'll sleep on it and see. The images are in tribute of Chagall and FIDDLER ON THE ROOF. 108" x 106". And just for the record... it weighs a ton!
