exosphere is a CLI / TUI tool for aggregated patch and security update reporting via SSH. It shows host status, displays distro updates across servers, pings connected hosts and more. Alexandre Gauthier made exosphere using the Textualize framework & is Terminal Tool of the Week! ⭐️

Oh no, for some reason I started making a stupid modal TUI for my nice little tool that does reporting on updates, and now I can't stop. DO I EVEN NEED THIS AT THIS POINT? I have a super nice interactive prompt that does pretty tables and data display, but I can't stop. #Python #HomeLab #textual

A Text mode User Interface for Exosphere.

It displays the Dashboard screen which is a grid of boxes with rounded corners, green or red tinted. Inside each box there is the nostname, platform, description followed by the online status (ONLINE in green, OFFLINE in red).

There is a menu below, listing interactive keys. It reads:

P: Ping All, d: Dashboard, i: Inventory, l: Logs, ^q: Quit

The small joy of making tools for yourself. #linux #freeBSD #python #HomeLab

A nice terminal table displaying a lists of servers, their hostname, the operating system they run, the specific flavor of it and version.

it also shows the amount of pending system updates to be applied, as well as security updates.

All the hosts show Status as "Online" in green.

Whenever hosts have a non zero amount of updates in the security column, the number is red.

The top header reads "Host Status Overview" in italics.
At the bottom there is a prompt labeled "exosphere" awaiting more commands.

As a bonus, from the same friend, more environmental storytelling at one of his work sites.

Been playing Final Fantasy XIV again and coordinated this Black Mage outfit. I'm fairly pleased. Also Fashion genuinely is the endgame. #ffxiv #mmorpg

A close up screenshot of a female presenting Au Ra. She has tan skin, with purple hair styled in a Hime cut. Her left eye is dark orange, the left has a black sclera and a bright white, glowing ring around the silver iris. She is wearing a gold monocle on her left eye, with ornate decorations around the rim, and a dangling chain.

She has long horns sprouting from the side of her head, flowing backwards, horizontally, with a slight curve to them. Each horn has a silver band near the point.

She is holding an ornate japanese style parasol, black, gold and red.

She is wearing a dress trop that has open shoulders. The dress is also black on the outside, red inside, with gold highlights and ornate, elaborate trimmings. It is a snug fit, looking elegant.

A full body shot of the same, revealing that the dress top flows into a coat at the back, and stops at the belt. Underneath she is wearing ornate black and red pants. There are large red jewels ensconsed into the golden trims around the knees. She is wearing black boots with a golden rune where they would be laced.

She is holding an elaborate magical staff that seems to have delicate apparatus., also black and gold. The top of the staff is a sharp moon crescent, with an red jewel in the middle.

Her expression is definitely somewhere between smug and condescending.

A full body shot from the back. The back of the dress opens up to reveal the full nape and back of the shoulders, sagging purposefully outwards from the body.

The top then flows into long coat tails, still black, with ornate gold trimmings.

A slim, white reptilian tail emerges from between the coat tails.

There's something incredble about this old Unix poster. It combines the strange surreal vibe of Box Art of the era, with a fascinating amount of detail and references. The more you stare, the more you find. Would love a huge print. #unix

A unix poster with the title "UNIX MAGIC" written on a parchment scroll header.

Below a drawing depicts a Wizard in red robes with a conical hat pouring vials of golden liquid into a sea shell shaped cauldron. The Cauldron is bubbling with orange liquid.

As they mix in the cauldron, a hierarchical structure emerges, blue and golden lines branching out as they grow vertically, each terminated by a small dot, possibly representing a filesystem. In modern times, it looks like a VCS commit tree.

The Wizard has long white hair and a long beard. He wears a complex, difficult to read expression. He is a mix of excited, afraid, and shocked at the outcome of his actions. There is a slightly deranged glint in his eye, although not a malicious one.

His cape is covered in special unix shell character, his hat in little seashells.

He seems to be occupying a brick house. The ceiling is covered in pipes running across the room. (Unix pipes and pipelines). One of them is leaking into a suspended bucket.

Behind him are a shelf of books and containers. Multiple small leather pouches with drawstrings hang from nails driven into the wood, all labeled with references to unix commands.

The cauldron occupes the center of the room and sits on a square in-floor fireplace.

Surrounding the cauldron are various jars, and pots, and trinkets. Some of them are labeled. All the labels are again references to unix commands or concepts.

There is a black cat peering from the bottom edge.
