It claims to know everything but is often wrong, & there's no clear path to correcting it when it is. In fact the next time it responds it might be correct & wrong again the time after that. Imagine a banking app that inexplicably miscalculated your balance even 5% of the time

Such a very odd response. In all those cases there's a clear avenue for response/correction. Also those are often run by admitted amateurs or crowd-sourcing so the audience expects imperfection. AI, on the other hand, is an entirely different kind of slop.

Why not just use a search engine? AI will cut & paste from multiple sources, getting the citation of some references wrong & misquoting others as it attempts to generate a half-assed summary. You have check it's work to avoid both errors & plagiarism. It's only labor-saving if you tolerate slop.
