I your probably right in the nature of the criticism she's had, but I can imagine alot of anger being aimed along the lines of a man's intentions behind it, being over competitive or ruining/making uncomfortable what should be a mixed gender event. Writing that, I suppose it strengthens your point

I see your point, but the winner of the marathon at the European athletics in Birmingham this summer had a similar misshap and it wasn't mentioned at all. In part because it does happen in running, but also it posed no risk to anyone else. It was the impact on other competitors that made this worse.

A few years ago we went through hell to get my wife's visa, a common reaction from people was shock the immigration laws applied to my family too and how it wasn't meant for people like me. But it was and it made our lives a misery. That shocked reaction is the Tory party writ large on this racism.

One of the most common conversations I have with year 6s is reminding them when they type something on a screen, there's a human at the other end of it. Seems like a lot of adults working in the media need the same conversation.

And now time for that uniquely British summer tradition: where we castigate ourselves, our education system and most of all our young people for going on to be better educated than ever before.

It is hard to get a nuanced conversation about it. As a class teacher at the time I hated what it did to schools and the kids. I couldn't wait to get back. But I was never really at risk, and colleagues that were, were terrified. With hindsight there was a better way. At the time, we did our best

Part of the reason I fell in love with Korea was its history of the people overcoming every challenge and hardship that came their way. The events of the past 12 hours only reiterate that. An amazing country, an amazing history and most importantly amazing people.

100%, its so important. I've always worked in faith schools in economically challenged areas. The celebration of Christmas for us is really important, but it's always a delicate line with the commercial and gift side of it all.

020

Dan McCreadie @mr-mc1985.bsky.social · 30/11/2024

Definitely agree with that, if you're using it or indeed anything else Christmas related to manage behavior, then for me, it's seriously out of line.

Ultimately, a teacher knows their class. If it's going to bring a bit of cheer and excitement, then crack on. If it's not going to or your hearts not in it enough to really make it fun for them, don't.
