Shock horror no thought given that an existing route should be maintained in some form. So i guess riding up a trunk road that is being upgraded is the correct thing. sorry to drivers as I ride up at 5mph, but rules is rules.
National Highways delivering the project.

We recognise that the closure of your usual route alongside the old A417 between Brockworth and the Air Balloon roundabout will have been disappointing and apologise for the frustration this has caused.

Unfortunately, the route along Dog Lane is currently being used for construction access and, for safety reasons, cannot be used by cyclists at this time. This restriction is in place to protect both the public and our workforce.

This closure will remain in place until Spring 2027, when the Cotswold Way crossing and the repurposed A417 are due to be completed. Once open, cyclists will benefit from a dedicated off-road route through the area.

When the route along Dog Lane reopens, it will connect to the Cotswold Way crossing at the top of Crickley Hill. Cyclists, walkers and horse riders will be able to safely cross the five lanes of traffic using the new bridge before continuing along the repurposed A417 to Nettleton Bottom

This sent me down a little rabbit hole, Cheltenham is very white, but part of this is the school has no catchment area any longer. So you have pupils from an insanely huge area attending. Which feels like an issue. just not Matt gpt’s issue.

Would a more protective helmet have saved Magnus' life?

I want to be absolutely clear. Only one person is responsible for killing Magnus. But I think about this. I don't dwell. But I think. As his dad, I just do.

This is the helmet he wore that day. A $375 helmet. Ultra light. Carbon. Heavily ventilated. Built for racing. And this is my motorcycle helmet.

A bicycle helmet is tested by dropping it on an anvil at 14 mph. So is a DOT motorcycle helmet. That number simulates your head hitting the ground from the height you fall from. Every helmet standard in the world is built around one event. A rider falls and hits the ground.

The standards are written around falling, not being struck by a vehicle.

That's why every news story that reports when a cyclist is hit and if they wearing a helmet is absolute bullshit.

Not one helmet is designed for a car hitting you from behind.

Motorcycle helmets aren't better because they're rated for speed. They're better because they cover the whole head, carry far more foam and shell, and in Europe are tested for rotation.

Bicycle helmets give all of that up for weight and air. Thin hard shell, hard foam, super thin pads. A mountain bike helmet covers a little more, but is built the same way.

Bicycle helmets have looked like this for 25 years. The only real advance is MIPS, a layer that lets the helmet slip to reduce rotation, and you pay extra for it. Designed for the crash you cause, not the one that's caused to you.

No helmet will survive every hit. And you can't ride a bicycle in a motorcycle helmet.

The cause of death on my son’s death certificate is blunt force trauma to the head. It should really say "Killed by an impaired driver."

I don't know if a different helmet saves Magnus. I know bicycle helmets need a radical new approach. The biggest risk on the road is not falling.

Start with the crash nobody is designing for.

Would a car driver say this gives all car drivers a bad name? So why should I take ownership of the actions of a fuckwit? Risk pyramid deal with the biggest problem first, that would be fuckeits in cars.
Vulnerable road users (pedestrians, motorcyclists and pedal cyclists) account for a disproportionately large share of fatalities and KSI casualties compared with their share of traffic. Together these groups made up over half of those killed and seriously injured (KSI) in road collisions and had the highest casualty rates.

I don't know which page you're looking at but definitely there, along with a string of other cases of violence.
Dublin rape case
In March 2019, The New York Times reported that McGregor was under investigation by the Garda Síochána (police), following allegations of a sexual assault on a woman in a Dublin hotel in December 2018.[230][231] A second allegation of sexual assault was reported in October 2019, regarding an assault on a woman in a car alleged to have taken place earlier that month.[232]

In January 2021, after prosecutors declined to prosecute McGregor for the 2018 alleged sexual assault, a civil claim for damages was launched in the High Court. A spokeswoman for McGregor said in a statement that the allegations against him were "categorically rejected" and that he was "confident that justice will prevail" in the civil case.[233][234] In March 2022, the High Court made a pre-trial discovery order against McGregor requiring the Gardaí to disclose certain information and documents gathered by them.[235]

The civil action was taken against McGregor by Nikita Hand, who alleged he violently beat and raped her in Dublin in December 2018. The trial began in the High Court in Dublin on 5 November 2024, with Mr. Justice Alexander Owens as judge.[236][237][238] On 22 November 2024, the jury returned their verdict and found that McGregor had raped Hand. Accordingly, McGregor was ordered to pay Hand nearly €250,000 in damages.[239][240][241][242] On 5 December 2024, Justice Owens ordered McGregor to pay the entirety of Hand's legal costs, approximately €1,500,000, and said that he may begin contempt of court proceedings against McGregor for his comments about the case on social media after it concluded.[243][244][245] During his cross-examination, McGregor admitted to using cocaine.[246][247][238]
