This is an article that I've wanted to write for over a year, and I finally got the chance to do it! Atproto Ethos is a deep dive into how we think about protocol design - its influences, the core innovations, and the opinionated takes that we've adopted

I love this perspective on the high level design thinking for the AT Proto. I hope this deck gets posted; it’s a great primer on why and how all this [waves hands vaguely] works behind the scenes. @dholms.xyz at #ATmosphereConf

Photo of a slide from a presentation:

Atproto Ethos

The Web: open, permissionless, universal, interconnected data

Peer to Peer: location independent data, self certifying data, skepticism of centralization

Distributed Systems: split read and write mode, application aware indices, microservices, eventual consistency, stream processing

Identity based authority, structure gives freedom, split generic hosting from application, lazy trust

#someonesaid you can't really have a true love unless it was a love unrequited. So your truest love is the one you can never have? That's what makes it sad. Beautiful at the same time cause you can only imagine what could have been.
