the first was like someone shoved The Cure's Wish album (specifically) into the generator and the second was crammed with every idiosyncrasy of RHCP's Californication album and the result was kinda...nauseating? once i paid attention enough to realize i knew neither song

So ive largely managed to avoid ai slop. I dont read much fic save for fandom friends or really old fandoms, i only listen to my playlists, im not on tt... so haven't had any chance to puck up any "tells" but istg the gym was playing AI songs this morning.

You have no skills for navigating it, in dealing with the dissonance that media doesnt HAVE to be a moral lesson. That media doesn't have a responsibility to Make you a Good Person. It just has to entertain you. /end

You arent going to a movie for dating and relationship examples, you are expected to understand good from bad and enjoy media without it teaching you how to be a good person and have a healthy relationship. But...if you have never had that relationship with media and then are thrust into it 8/

they cannot process messy, complicated, adult lives. But media doesnt have an obligation to be didactic. It doesnt need the protagonist pontificating that "this is bad". As an adult you are expected to understand that already. Because you dont need your movie to tell you good from bad 7/

And I fully believe the modern puratinism in fan spaces is what happens when children are raised in completely siloed media bubbles never having accidentally encountered something complicated and adult. When all their media has to be moral and "good representation" 6/

Which is how you have people freaking out over The Sheep Detectives engaging with grief and loss because "why is this in a kids film" as if children cant experience loss and benefit from media engaging with it. 5/

My childhood media had a certain darkness to it. Media for kids that dealt with death or societal ills. And that feels completely erased. Media must be moral, sanitized, didactic. Children cannot ever be expected to confront anything difficult. 4/

But by the time I was a parent there was whole television and radio stations of Only Kids media. And it was subtly implied you were A Bad Parent if you weren't deeply steeped in a fully sanitized For The Kids, moral didactic, disneyfied media landscape. 3/

Like when I was a kid there was just music (made for adults) on the radio. After 8 TV was geared to adults. There were large budget movies For Adults. Like there was media aimed to kids but I was always aware of media that was "too grown up" for me. 2/

This dovetails into something I have been musing on lately which is that there is a generational group (to unecesserily stereotype and generalize) that has not made the the jump from childrens media to adult media. And I think its an outgrowth of the need to sanitize things For The Children 1/

this is the thing that also gets me is its young adults pushing this
