Ahh this book I've wanted for a long time arrived. ;_; Tove Jansson's illustrations in The Hobbit, in English too! A treasure!!

The cover of the English publication of The Hobbit, Illustrated by Tove Jansson. Against a pink backdrop stands Tove's drawing of Bilbo peering from behind a shield and holding a polearm in one hand. In the distance behind him flies the blue silhouette of Smaug over blue mountains backlit by a sun in a misty sky. At the foot of the mountains small figures travel on horseback along the shore of a shimmering lake.

Tove's black and white ink drawing of the dwarves perched high up in the trees for safety while below them a fire burns. Goblins are running and waving their arms and spears in the air all around, and wolves are standing on their hind legs to antagonise the captives.

Tove's ink drawing of Smaug coming down through a billow of smoke over Lake-Town. He has a fat serpentine body and many clawed limbs. His eyes are mad and wide and he spews flames from his nostrils and gaping mouth. Fire swallows the tall buildings and arches and people below flail in the water and try to cling to capsizing boats.

Still celebrating my victory in the astroturf wars ☘️

A photo of a garden dotted with colourful pots of flowers and a rectangular lawn in the middle. It's green and sprinkled with white clover flowers. Two wood pigeons graze among the blooms!

Happy solstice ☀️ it will always be a special day for me!

A glorious sunny day sitting low in the long grass. In the foreground a marbled white butterfly is drinking from a pretty pink clover bloom. Its folded wings are gently backlit, slightly translucent in the bright sunshine. The black line markings make me think of a stained glass decoration!

Haven't been out much lately but there are some butterfly and moth friends around! A couple of species I haven't yet seen before in this area so that's nice!

A Common Blue butterfly rests on a fluffy grass seedhead.

A Small Copper butterfly feeds from a yellow buttercup.

A faded and slightly tatty Painted Lady butterfly drinks from a white bramble flower.

A black and white Mother Shipton moth perches on a purple vetch flower.

This is a cat checkpoint; relinquish your most recent cat picture in your phone.

A ginger cat lays in someone's lap and looks to the camera. He has just woken up and one side of his face remains squished from his nap, exposing one fang.

Was tickled by this today 😆

A photo of a box of chicken nuggets in a feezer at a supermarket. The box is green and in the upper right hand corner is labelled "Nuggy".

Some Angry Beavers sketches I dug up from 2022!

3 loose sketches of the character Daggett, a very pointy cartoon beaver with spiky teeth. In the first sketch he's sitting on the floor happily munching chilli peppers. In the second he's frowning in concentration as he lays on his belly and draws a sunshine on some paper. In the third he smiles winks at us with fingerguns.

3 more sketches of Daggett. In the first he's leaned over and swinging his arms in a goofy dance. In the second he is looking up at us coyly, arms behind his back with an innocent smile. In the third he is laying back seductively with a rose in his toothy mouth.

A coloured version of the coy innocent Daggett sketch!

Another lovely thing I got to photograph today was the shimmering rainbow effect of the sunlight on Alfredo's fur. It can be seen with the naked eye also!

Closeup of the fur of a black cat, appearing almost as if it's covered in glittery metallic powder in very visible gold and blue type colours

A closeup of the tuxedo cat's face in the sunshine, sniffing a string of blue crystal beads. His face is covered in many points of blue and gold light reflecting from his hairs.

Another closeup of Alfredo's back showing the same glittery colourful effect.

Delighted that I got to photograph some beautiful pals on this particularly warm day!

A comma butterfly basks in the warm sunshine, perched on a little stone on the mossy ground. It is bright orange with large brown spots in rows across its crinkle-cut wings

A peacock butterfly rests on a dead leaf in the grass. It is mostly bright red with four very striking purple and black eye markings on its wings.

Seeing lots of beavers around lately which is nice! They deserve appreciation! Here's a new sprite for episode 2 of the @sweetleaves.art visual novel! His name is Gabe ^u^

A chubby fluffy anthropomorphic beaver gives us a cheerful smile! He wears big round glasses, a green jacket and light blue trousers.

Something very intriguing about her eyes is that they have all sorts of colours mixed in the blue, kind of an iridescence? She's a gorgeous magical creature!

A close up of a grey colourpoint and white cat's vivid blue eyes. The light seems to bring out subtle shades of yellow and green shimmering from the various shades of blue.

I didn't share pics of Laura Lu's birthday! She turned 2 years old on Feb 24th (twins with @levi.land hehe)

A mostly grey cat with a white face marking and white chest and paws looks at us smugly with blue eyes. Next to her are her birthday gifts, consisting of a fluffy purple elephant teddy, some strawberry flavour "lick-e-puds" snacks and a packet of sliced chicken. Offscreen she had bags of other snacks!

The grey and white colourpoint tuxedo kitty sits by the same gifts, however this time they are wrapped in pink flowery gift paper.

I wanna paint more wings, with or without bum. Twinky is @thesandling.bsky.social's character!

An angelic anthropomorphic fennec fox swoops in a midair flip and gives us a topsy-turvy smile and a wave. Their fur is white all over and they have big majestic wings, one purple and one pink, and their tufted inner ear fluff matches this pastel harlequin palette. Elaborate patterns also cover their legs and buttcheeks in these colours.

I rate this year a solid 👎 Though some good stuff still happened... - Sweet Leaves VN ep 1 published and was well received - Met TanukiDad irl! - Saw and photographed my first ever Marbled White butterfly - Found a couple of stories that actually gave a little joy - Sonic con was very fun

A marbled white butterfly sits with wings open among the green grass in the sunshine. Its wings are covered in symmetrical dappled black and white markings and its fluffy body is a soft grey.

In the UK there are more species of day flying moths than there are butterfly species!

A shiny greenish scarlet tiger moth sits on the concrete ground in the sunshine.

A six spot burnet moth unfurls its long tongue to drink from a purple vetch flower.

A silver Y moth flutters its grey and brown wings in the long green grass.
