Average American politician: of course I support a two state solution, no I don't support doing anything to achieve that. Why do you ask? Average Israeli politician: by my own hand, the two state solution will be shot and buried in the ditch of history

For the love of God, stop saying this regime's ruthless authoritarianism "raises questions" and start telling us what answers you have for us. If you can't do that, get the fuck out of the way.

Of course the CO2 sequestration argument is "cheating": people use it as an argument not to reduce emissions now even though it is is not actually working. Nothing to do with suffering for our sins.

But if rich countries have significantly more innovation than poor countries, and also assuming decreasing returns for innovation, one should redistribute a lot of wealth from rich to poor countries.

That was what my original question was about. I still think that their approach is wrong. But I also understand that other think I am wrong. In any case, I hope that if Talarico wins he turns out to be at least decent; and if he doesn't, that I was wrong.

motoran.bsky.social @motoran.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
I believe that Paxton winning is a short term loss, which I don't think can really be argued with. I also believe that it is unlikely to lead to a long-term gain. I realized though this conversation that the people who are against voting for Talarico believe that it will lead to long-term gains.

I was trying to get you to answer a few simple questions to see what your actual argument is. From your replies it appears you think Talarico is as bad as Paxton. I would argue that this is delusional, but that is just my opinion (even if based on actual voting records and actions).

So, do you think a R majority will be no worse for trans people than a D majority? Or do you think the damage done to the trans community over the next 6 years is worth the benefit (the "including yourself" part of my statement)?
200
motoran.bsky.social @motoran.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
Unless you argue that helping a R win this election will convince a future D to be more trans friendly AND win the election, you are just making everyone's lives worse (including your own) for no benefit. Or am I missing something?
200
motoran.bsky.social @motoran.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
Yes, I am very focused on this election. The reason is that I believe every single election matters, as the last one has quite clearly shown. You can definitely make anti-trans Ds suffer. My question is still whether this is going to help the trans community.
100
motoran.bsky.social @motoran.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
And I do think, it is an important conversation to have how to make D politicians more accountable to the people they take for granted. So thank you for actually engaging, and not just telling me to drink sewage.
100
motoran.bsky.social @motoran.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
That is why I asked question 2. Can one really assume that "punishing" a D politician is going to make them change their mind in the correct way? Or would they go even harder to the "center"? Would it not be more productive to get rid of the "centrists" in the primaries?
100
motoran.bsky.social @motoran.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
I am not assuming any default in this example, at least as far as I can tell; nor does this calculation *in itself* mean anything is taken for granted. Where I do agree with you is that this reality leads D politicians to take votes for granted, and they embark on the idiotic quest for the "center".
100
motoran.bsky.social @motoran.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
I would argue that in a tight election not voting for a Democrat most definitely helps the Republican win. Let's assume as an example that there are 49% for R and 48% for D that are fixed, and 3% "undecided". If those 3% vote for D, D will win; if they don't R will win.

So what is the correct framing? I am honestly trying to understand the point that supporting a Republican is making anything better.
100
motoran.bsky.social @motoran.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
I see, you haven't answered any of the questions. Also, if you truly think both parties "support the same oppression", you are out of your mind.
220
motoran.bsky.social @motoran.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
3. Why would you expect non-trans people who will be hurt by Republican policies to care about trans people, if trans people obviously do not care about them? Btw, none of these questions mean I approve of what Talarico et al have done.
211
motoran.bsky.social @motoran.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
Three questions: 1. Do you honestly think the life of trans people will be better if a Republican wins over a Democrat? 2. Why would a Republican winning over a Democrat in a conservative state not convince the next Democrat running to go all out against the trans community?
