When you take a character from Pern, put him in FFXIV, then translate him into DA, then mash up the pieces of those and dump the result back into Pern. 🤔 Sansanin portrait from @pachineorzea.bsky.social | #hollekha | #AU |

Holle is from Southern Thanalan! (Setting aside his eternal struggle with whether he is from anywhere, or belongs anywhere.) He grew up in Little Ala Mhigo, and in his heart of hearts, he still loves the desert.

I like him. (They also hadn't given us the gleaner outfit yet when I made him.) I don't think he'd particularly mind wearing any of them, even if the last one isn't terribly practical.

The answer here is.... There is nothing going on there. 😂 All because one of my favorite outfit pieces for him doesn't even have the option. It went from "oops gotta watch the angles on my poses" (don't worry the included pic IS a safe angle) to just...canon for him. #holleaotd

In sorting through my snippets yesterday, I decided I that do in fact like this version of this fill better. | #hollekha |

The house was quiet, and Holle shut the door softly behind him so as not to disturb it, then shed his boots and set them on the mat. It was hardly the first time he’d come home in the middle of the night, and he knew from prior experience that he was unlikely to wake either Haurchefant or Aymeric, but he took care regardless.

He stood alone in the entryway for several long moments - moments that would have been uncomfortable for anyone else, barefoot on the stone floor, but he hardly noticed. Maybe he’d sleep on the sofa tonight: in the morning, it would be easy enough to say he hadn’t wanted to wake anyone. It would even be true. After one guilty glance up the stairs, he headed for the living room.

…only to find the sofa was quite occupied. Well, shit. Any other time, the sight of the two elezen curled up on the sofa in front of the fire, Aymeric fast asleep against Haurchefant - and gods knew the man needed the sleep - would have melted his heart.

Now, it sank as Haurchefant raised his head and smiled.

“You didn’t have to wait up,” Holle murmured, looking down at the floor. He almost hadn’t come home tonight, and now Haurchefant’s warm smile drove the wedge of guilt deeper.

“I was worried.” He kept his voice low, so as not to wake Aymeric.

Holle’s shoulders drooped further, even as a part of him wished he’d gone to the Enclave instead of coming home. Hidden. “I know. I’m sorry.”

“Come here?”

Holle hesitated, a nervous twitch to the end of his tail.

“Holle, it’s alright. Please?”

Finally, he slunk towards the outstretched hand; once he was within reach, Haurchefant hooked his arm around him and pulled him gently to the sofa. Holle had known it was coming, but he still wasn’t fully prepared for the touch - he suppressed the resulting shudder, but stiffened in spite of himself. It fed into the guilt already eating at him, the fact that Haurchefant would feel it, that he would worry more, and somehow that made him want to pull away entirely.

Instead, he forced himself to settle against the knight’s side. He fit into what space remained on the sofa easily enough, folding his legs beneath him and tucking his body in beside Haurchefant, and ordinarily would have been more than happy to do so, without any prompting. But right now, it was the last thing he wanted.

“Holle…” At least he managed not to flinch when Haurchefant brushed his hair out of his face. “Do you want to talk about it?”

“No.” Holle tucked his face against Haurchefant’s shoulder, less for comfort and more to hide, as his tail continued to flick, a particular quality to the motion that hinted at how unsettled he was. “I’m sorry.”

He felt Haurchefant sigh. “I won’t force you, just… Promise you’d tell me if something had happened?”

Whether he liked it or not, Holle could understand why he pushed. “Nothing happened, and it’s not you. It- It’s old.”

“When you’re ready…”

“I know, I know.” He knew it was killing Haurchefant not to know, that shutting him out was hurting him. “I just…I’m not, Haurche. I’m sorry, but I’m not. Can you… Can you be okay with that, for now?” Please.

Fingers combed through his hair, and this time it was almost reassuring. “Of course.”

It was a lot to ask, he knew. Maybe more than was fair, but that didn’t stop him from asking, or from curling a little closer for the comfort he wanted in spite of himself.

Finally cleaned up this snippet of Holle immediately after the fight with Wilred in ARR. | #hollekha |

No sooner had they all run than Holle let himself fall, the world spinning as he sagged to the ground. He couldn’t stay here, he should move, it wasn’t safe - but it was all he could do to drag in desperate gasps for air, to stem the pain and the panic that burned in his veins and blacked out his vision. If any of them came back, he was as good as dead.

He knew it, and still he could do nothing but gasp and shake, helpless in the wake of the adrenaline. The shock. It was far from the first time he’d fought for his life, but this was different. His hand shook violently as he pressed it to where Wilred’s blade had pierced his shoulder. It had meant nothing to him, to hurt him; Holle had just been an enemy, an obstacle, nothing more.

He remembered the day he’d arrived in Little Ala Mhigo. Remembered being cornered by the other children: outsider, stranger, unknown and different. How Wilred had intervened, declaring him one of them - wasn’t his father Ala Mhigan, after all? And wouldn’t X’rhun be disappointed in them all, to see how they treated his son? No, Holle belonged. Wilred had declared it so.

From that day on, they'd been inseparable. And no one had been surprised when that childhood friendship had turned to something more, into sneaking off at all hours, the devotion and obsession of first love.

But just as he had once given it, Wilred had now revoked that belonging. Declared him traitor. Anything, everything they had ever been was ripped away. There had been only hatred in Wilred’s eyes, blame and burning anger. He hadn’t hesitated, not even for the barest of moments. He had wanted to hurt him. He had wanted him dead.

And his refusal to die was just one more betrayal. One more reason to hate him.

What had happened? When had it all gone so wrong? He’d been angry with him for leaving, but this? This was something deeper, something rotten, that couldn’t be Wilred. Or could it?

Had he truly caused this? Was Wilred right, and he’d abandoned them, abandoned them all, and deserved this?

Between ragged sobs, Holle tried to force himself to focus, to rein in his racing heart and get himself together. He needed to heal himself, to the extent that he could. Stop the bleeding, get cleaned up, bandage it, hide it. Take all of this, all the pain and confusion, and bury it. He couldn’t go home like this. Couldn’t let his mother see. Couldn’t let anyone see.

He couldn’t go home like this.

He couldn’t go home.

It wasn’t his anymore.

He didn’t belong.

He never had.

Yes, yes he does. (It doesn't hurt that he's had a lot of positive reinforcement, either. 😂) He's well aware that he's different, but it's been a very long time since that's bothered him at all. He has his fair share of issues, but that isn't one of them. #holleaotd
