Google finally updated some of its satellite images of Gaza and my god, it's horrific. The entirety of Rafah has been demolished. The majority of Khan Younis is in ruins. Entire towns completely leveled and erased of the map.

Incidentally i recently finished david hinton’s translations of the daoist classics + the analects. Like all translations they have their merits and weaknesses. But what i particularly appreciated is how he contextualises the texts as products of their time (criticisms of the failing state)

Logic appears to be something along the lines of Under qualified academic (black): imperative to fire immediately to protect high standards Under qualified academic (white): imperative to protect indefinitely to protect freedom Pretty astounding to see the hypocrisy so starkly contrasted

Shows how effective the “AI” marketing has been as well tbh. You go “yes machine learning is useful for many things no one disputes that” and all the credulous excited normie hears is that you admitted it, AI is amazing, time to slop it up

Really struggle to see how any thinking person could think that researchers are using the same word generating LLMs they can access in a browser for cancer research. Bro no one’s typing “find me a cancer drug” into a chat bot ffs

Advertising Reform’s budget plans as “savings”. Really feels like the entire British media machine is now fully in on the migrant scapegoat plan. Is there even a way out of this?

You know how I keep saying the Times paywall is basically a rattling trapdoor over the demon realm? Well
We have analysed just how obsessed the media was with Jason Arday right up until his death.
We tracked 249 articles about him by UK media. 44 from The Times alone, 43 from The Telegraph, and the list goes on.
The nonsense the media was publishing about him was a perfect representation of how morally bankrupt legacy journalism has become.

I think the home office genuinely see stories like this as a positive. It shows theyre “tough” and the majority of the British press will not treat migrants as human beings

David Hinton discusses the political and religious context in which the daoist classics were written in his translations. His view (i think) is that daoism kind of preserved or resurrected a pre-state naturalistic worldview in reaction to the materialism and violence of early states. Recommend it!

My suspicion is this is a specifically liberal perspective. Its purpose is to perpetuate the myths that people didn’t know at the time that the atlantic slave trade and native genocide were bad etc. would be interesting to verify by comparing to pre-modern texts

I often enough see such ways of thinking from liberals that it makes me reconsider Perry Anderson’s “in media res” jibe against Adam Tooze as a broader tenet of liberalism. A dogmatic refusal to acknowledge systemic connections elevated into a fractured, useless worldview

This headline is fuel for the right-wing anti-migrant reaction machine, but the article reveals the employer knowingly brought her to the UK under a visitor visa to employ her, then denied her a work permit—and most importantly!—refused to pay her any wages. This looks approximate to modern slavery
