hey @backerkit.com just thought you should know: New Zealand doesn't have states, yet alone ones with exactly the same name as Australia's states ;) I'm not quite sure how I'm supposed to change my address now...
A screenshot of two input fields for a form. The top field reads "Country: [New Zealand]". The second field reads "Select your state/region: ..." followed by all of Australia's states.

discovered a new limitation in UE4 today. It is not possible to have A Lot of reflection captures in a scene. There is a hard limit.

keychron Q3 + Q0. It's not ergonomic, but it's wireless, and feels sturdy. Separate numpad can be put on the left (correct) side, and can be left behind when going wireless on the couch or wherever.
Photo of a keyboard with earth-tone coloured keycaps, wooden wrist rest, separate numpad on the left, and a contraption of buttons and knobs sitting behind it.

I bought a new watch and i think its very pretty
a photograph of my wrist, a grey woolen knitted jumper on my arm. i am sitting at my desk, and my computer mouse is visible in the background. it has twelve glowing orange buttons on the side. the watch itself is very large, with a green watchface with tan/orange accents. there are three smaller dials, and a date display. the wrist band is a light tanned leather with two silver rivets, matching the silver watch case, with two knobs visible on the left side

screenshot of my result: Gideon Nav. there is a crude drawing in red felt pen on a brownish grey background of a girl with a tank top, skull face paint, sunglasses, and spiky hair. the description reads: "Hey lesbian Jesus, saddest girl in the whole entire world! The butch everyone wishes they could be; the tragedy nobody could ever withstand. All you want in this life is just a single kind word, but could you actually handle being treated this nicely? You tend to surround yourself with freaks and weirdos, but worry not– you're just the super cool hot and normal one of the bunch! Poor, poor girl, hopefully you'll get to touch some boobs someday. You have a truly kind and tender heart, and the universe is crushing it over and over again."

Photograph of a Tangara- a ipod-like small handheld music player. it has a rough translucent white rectangular shell, a bright white navigation wheel at the bottom, and a small LCD screen at the top. it sits against a computer keyboard, and a nondescript buttonboard with lots of different kinds of buttons on it. to the right side, an xbox controller and a computer DAC are slightly hidden. a colourful blue and purple mouse mat is on the table underneath it all.

photo selfie of myself. i have a very large grin on my face, a purple flower on one ear, dark red-rimmed glasses, and long brown hair. i have my head and a hand resting atop a large lego box. the box has "botanical garden" written on it in white floral text, with a large graphic of a lego rendition of an 18th-century botanical garden in white wrought iron (here as plastic lego), with many colourful flowers and plants in and around it.

A Photoscene i worked on for Automation: TCCTG. i had a lot of fun writing the Parallax occlusion mapping shader for the water and rocks here. the entire scene is a flat non-tessellated plane with a single material on it, and a skybox 🌅✨
cg render of a cloudy early-evening sunset in a rocky beach shallows. the sun is barely visible in the overcast sky, but it still shines brightly off the water and rocks in the foreground. the camera is quite low, very close to the stones. the sharp stones are softly rendered in the DOF created by the camera, contrasting nicely with the soft but high-contrast clouds in the distance.cg render of a late sunset in a rocky beach shallows, with some low buildings visible in the distance. the sun is setting above the buildings to the left, casting a very bright bloom over the silhouettes of houses and church spires. the sky is a still cloudy greenish blue, and the shallows of the water and stones in the foreground reflect the sky and buildings in a soft glow. the rocks are sharp, and cast heavy shadows on the scene, combining with the dark shadows of the clouds in the sky to contrast with the soft gradients of the sky and water.cg render of an overcast midday sky over a shallow stoney beach. the water and the sky create a soft blue and white glow in the picture, and contrast nicely with the shadows cast by the clouds. the sharp stones in the foreground are softened by the DOF created by the camera's focus on the sky. the sun creates a bright white glow on the atmosphere in the center of the picture.

A Photoscene i worked on for Automation: TCCTG. This started off as an asset pack, but I did a huge optimization pass on it, redid all the lighting and colour grading, and adjusted the materials to better match the look for our game :3
cg render of a large abstract brutalist sculpture. there are several huge intersecting concrete structures, each composed of a long rectangular profile which bends at a right angle halfway down its length. the ground is a flat grid of polished concrete slabs, and the background is a warm sunset, the sun barely visible behind one of the large concrete structures. the sky is a hazy light blue, with thin clouds low on the horizon.cg render of the inside of a concrete brutalist 'A'-frame hall of some kind. the entire image is a blinding bright orange. the sides of the 'A'-frame have regular slits in them, letting in warm rays of sunlight into the room. one such ray is hitting the far wall, from the sunlight coming in the left side casting a warm beam onto the dark concrete wall, shaded a dark orange from the almost etherial orange glow of the room. the left side of the 'A'-frame also has strips of neon orange lights running along the length of the beams, but they seem almost redundant with how brightly the room is lit by the daylight already.cg render of an 'A'-frame hallway, long and narrow. the walls are the same length as the floor, making an almost equilateral triangle profile. the left side is composed of a series of concrete beams, and the sun is shining into the room from them, casting bright white patterns down the right side of the wall. the effect is a fractal pattern of triangular shapes as the perspective of the camera looks down the hallway, formed from the beams on the left, the shadows on the floor, and the bright patches of sunlight on the far side. the right wall also has a series of neon lights rising up from the floor and reaching the roof in a pattern that matches the beams of light, but their purple glow is quite dim in comparison to the sun.

Here's my #GameDevDNA, four games that inspired me on my journey:
screenshot of EVE Online. a blue nebula, with dark bley asteroids floating in the midground. the foreground is a dark rusted orange spaceship, with bright yellow headlights (on a spaceship, yes, dont think about it too hard), and two blue mining lasers coming out of it and hitting one of the asteroids. the text "EVE Online" is superimposed in the asteroid field, in front of another two spaceships in the distance.screenshot of Battlefield 2: Modern Combat, for the original Xbox. it is a first-person view, with a matte black sniper rifle taking up most of the right side of the screen. the colours are muted, suffering the standard brownification of the era. the scene is a snowy hilltop, looking out over a small series of low buildings. there are HUD elements displaying the players' health, a minimap, and the current ammo count for the weapon. there is large text in the center of the screen, saying "Clear the heliport of all enemy resistance". a series of various small coloured icons are strewn in the scene, some over tanks and cars.screenshot of Star Wars Battlefront, for the original Xbox. the sceenshot is in widescreen, so its probably from the PC port. it is a first-person perspective. the bottom right is covered by a white armoured wrist holding a rifle of some sort, with a red scope. in front of the player, to the center-left of the screen, is a clone trooper in full white armour, with red shoulder pauldrons, standing in an armoured turret emplacement, firing down the scope of a canon hidden from view by his armour. further away, a series of circular metal walkways with orange lights lining them can be seen along several domed structures, and miscellaneous combat occurring there. the sky is a raining dark greenish hue, with lightning coming down in places. something far away is on fire on one of the platforms, but it is hidden behind the turret.a screenshot of Homeworld. the screen is a dark orange, with nebula barely visible in the background. in the center of the screen is a large asteroid field, and surrounding it are many small blips that could be spaceships. there is a lot of UI covering everything, with a large disc in the center of the screen displaying distance and angle from the center of the screen. The bottom of the screen is covered by a large blue UI area, with many small buttons representing the various actions one can take in the game.

Another "Photoscene" i made for Automation: TCCTG. I kitbashed this from several assorted environment sets, and it was a lot of fun :3
cg render of a modern London street in the early evening. the camera is quite low to the ground, and the ground is covered in puddles that reflect the city lights and windows. in the foreground is the corner of a pavement wall, with some red graffiti painted on it. the camera is focused far away, and the graffiti cannot be read clearly. in the middle of the shot is a t-intersection, with red lights. the background has a large brutalist concrete building, with the name "automation" written and mostly obscured on its second story facade. the rest of the buildings before it are traditional english townhouses, converted to shops and storefronts. on the other side of the street, to the left of the photo and behind the pavement wall can be seen some trees and lights of a small city park, with a covered bus stop beside it.cg render of a '60s-to-'70s london street, with overcast lighting. it is shot from a low perspective, maybe waist height, looking upward at a large building about 50 meters down a narrow street corner. it is painted a stark white above the ground floor, with a very '70s psychedelic painting on it in vibrant colours and shapes. the painting covers the whole three stories above ground-level. the ground level is converted to a department store, with signage that reads "Lake 6". closer to the camera on the right is a cinema with an awning adorned with green paint and flashing yellow lights. beside it is a sign that reads "JANE BAR". across it on the street, at the far left of the photo, is signage for a donut shop, and another for something called "JADE". the rest of the street is mostly still traditional townhouses, and the sidewalks are lined with those large dark metal plinths that i cant remember the name of that are common in the UK.CG render of a modern london urban center. it is late evening, the sky still dimly lit with clouds and a little blue, but the shadows cast by the unseen buildings behind the shot make the scene darker than the sky would imply.
the street lamps are on, and some of the buildings' rooms are lit, which creates small pockets of light in the foreground, in which can be seen a street converted from a road into a pedestrian area, next to the fenced park on the left. the pedestrianized street is lined with large portable planter-boxes, with assorted ferns and bushes in them, and lit by the warm old-fashioned street lamps.

Another "Photoscene" i worked on for Automation: TCCTG. This one was made from-scratch, almost entirely by me. its a few years old now, but it still holds up if you squint. the intense bloom is intentional- these were rendered to become 256x512-sized thumbnails, where the bloom shines fantastically
a cg render of the outside of a modern exhibition center. the composition focuses on diagonals, pointing somewhat to the left of the exhibition center.
with a wide footpath in the foreground, a grass field in the mid-ground, and the building in the rear right of the shot, despite the footpath coming at right-angles to the exhibition center.
the facade of the building is made of large wooden beams, protruding at regular intervals from the large two-story glass front.
the grass field is intersected diagonally by a footpath lined in regular intervals with wooden benches and rubbish bins. because of the composition of the shot, the diagonal path appears nearly horizontal in the frame.cg render of the exhibition center, from underneath the wooden beams at the front of the building. to the right is the glass facade, and the wooden beams create an almost fractal pattern repeating inwards as the perspective goes in and down the path. to the left is a plant-covered raised concrete garden separating the building from the grass field and trees to the left of it in the background. there is a large bloom artifact in the center of the photo, from the sunlight bouncing off the bright wooden beams.cg render from inside the exhibition center. it is nighttime, and the lights of the exhibition center are brighter than the evening glow barely visible behind the glass, then silhouettes of trees and mountains, beyond.
the sharp indoor lighting brings stark contrast to the large open area in the foreground, where red caution rope sections off the polished wooden floors from the center of the room, where a tiled area with car hoists and shelving can be seen. the second story of the building also overlooks this area. the roof is a cross-hatched wooden structure that casts a complicated repeating pattern of shadows on the walls.

a "Photoscene" i worked on for Automation: The Car Company Tycoon Game, in UE4. its base is an asset pack from the marketplace, but i modified it quite heavily for better lighting conditions, and adjusted some shaders and decals.
computer render of a japanese urban railway station, seen from below. in the foreground is a street-painted small roundabout, with one path to the left leading down an alleyway that runs parallel to the raised light rail. another path to the right goes into a warm-yellow lit tunnel under the railway, with some shops built into the sides. the overpass itself and the sides of the buildings around it are lit in a purplish-hue, and intersected with many power lines. behind them, the sky is a clear blue.a cg render of a narrow japanese street in broad daylight. the composition is symmetrical, with the left half taken up by a brown industrial building lined with closed bare metal garage doors. the right has a street sign before it that reads "One way" with a blue arrow pointing down the street. the right is also lined with buildings, but this time ones more suited for shops, however they are also closed. the nearest shop is rather long, and has 3 garage door shutters, also closed. they and the awning above it are a bright red.cg render inside an overpass tunnel. the foreground is warmly lit with sharp fluorescent lights, hidden above the photo. the sides of the overpass are lined with closed shops built into its sides. to the center-right of the composition is the exit of the tunnel, beyond which the rest of the street can be seen. the sky is an evening sunset, the tips of the buildings barely lit by the last of the sun's rays.

Homeworld, my beloved! its use of vertex colours for the skyboxes is what inspired me to get into tech art <3
photo of the top of my bedside drrsser. the Homeworld Collector's Edition Mothership model is centre-view. it is 30cm tall, full colour, and standing atop a base that looks like the stone Galactic Map from the original game. behind the model is a sturdy wooden bookcase filled with books. to the right of the model is some other assorted pop culture artefacts.

screenshot of the australia post delivery survey. the question is "based on this most recent delivery experience, how likely are you to recommend australis post to your family and friends?, for which the answer is a scale from 0 to 10. i put "10/10". the next question asks "what are your most important reasons for giving this score?" for which the answer is a text input field. in the field, i typed "it showed up at my door and i didnt have to go to some random milk bar to pick it up"screenshot of the australia post delivery survey. the question asks "please select the aspect/s that your feedback relates to." there are six options, all of which are ticked. they are: the security of the location where your parcel was left, if it was left unattended. the timeliness of delivery. the condition your parcel was received in. the professionalism of the person who delivered your parcel. the tracking information provided. Other. in the other field, i typed "the not having to go pick it up myself."screenshot of the same australia post delivery survey as the previous image. the "other" field also says "the it being delivered to the delivery address"

a tumblr post of a caption, and an image. the caption reads "stop idolizing the grind and start idolizing hügelkultur."
the image is a rendered drawing of a strip of farmland, raised into torso-height mounds, in rows. the top left corner shows the stages of development once plants grow, and their roots dig into the core. the top right shows a photo of one such mound in someone's yard. centre right shows a cut-through, with two mounds either side of a gardener- her head barely peeking above. the entire bottom of the image is taken by the largest drawing, depicting the rows running at right-angle to the path of the sun, fruit trees planted in the direction of the wind to act as windbreaker, and stones placed between the rows for the gardener to walk on. the leftmost row shows a breakdown of how the mounds are made: the core is large food waste, tree branches, and roots, and turf is placed upside down on top. humus is the top layer where plants are planted
