I have a letter board on my wall that I bought from Target that says "YOU DON'T ALWA S HAVE TO HAVE ALL YOUR SHIT TOGETHER" because the "Y" in "always" kept breaking off.

Look at the next bullet point. They're being hit by cars. I don't want to get too pedantic but the concern trolling is about e bikes being a danger, not e bikes being *in* danger.

And ebike has a close call with a pedestrian and a person thinke that could happen to anyone! And they mean the pedestrian. A car fails to see a cyclist at a four-way and kills them and they say that could happen to anyone! And they mean the driver.

It's because it's not about data. It's about who you identify with in an incident. I saw a KATU video come across my Tiktok feed about a hit and run driver who killed a 13-year-old on an e-bike and one of the commenters described this child dying as having ruined the driver's life.

Check those numbers. That's inconsistent with everything we know about unsafe behavior and whatever you're referencing might be erroneously including *mobility* scooters

I don't think e bikes that can accelerate to 20 mph within a couple seconds are safer than my mixtie loaded down with fenders, racks, and my fat butt, but that's not the comparison. I, as a very conscientious driver, experienced and trained, am a greater threat than a 10 year old on a scooter.

And before you say "but cars are metal boxes so they're safer" -- they're safer for their occupants. They're deadly to everyone else.

Force is mass * velocity squared. Going from ~15 mph to the 20 mph that people freak out about is a tiny fraction of the force of the 5 mph increase between 35 and 40 mph that people don't even consider speeding in a car. And that's *holding the mass constant*

That's not to say that ebike riders have never died in Portland. They're just the victims of car drivers.

A (she/her) @mostlyaditz.bsky.social · 17h
You're not winning on the math. In Portland Oregon, there are 3000 ride-sharing e bikes alone with 600k cars, so roughly 200x not even counting privately held e bikes. There were 40 pedestrian deaths in Portland in 2025. 0 recorded deaths caused by e bike riders. 40/0 is infinity.

A (she/her) @mostlyaditz.bsky.social · 18h
What do you bet that if I look up news reports for your neighborhood, I'll find multiple pedestrian deaths over that same 7 year period?

A (she/her) @mostlyaditz.bsky.social · 18h
E bikes are only dangerous (as far as they are dangerous) because everyone who is not piloting a 4 ton killing machine is squeezed into the last 3 feet of a 40 ft wide road. Y'all are calling 20 mph fast like that's not what the "burdensome" speed limit in school zones.

The false equivalency is so infuriating. 36k people die in car crashes every year in the US. 310 deaths caused by e bikes/e scooters between 2017 and 2024 (per the consumer product safety commission), only 19 of them were not the rider themselves. "Almost been in several accidents" give me a break.

I'm not sure if I hope it was or was not the invisible (to them) service staff doing the recording.

The people who like to point out that men are something like 25% of victims who reach out to rape crisis centers don't seem to know that their perpetrators are also nearly always men.

Well, I'm talking out of my rear end here but I think the 50/50 is because the judge will catch on if you object to all female jurors but in any event, it's the fact that older women are not reliably anti-rape culture I was pointing out and I think we agree.

A (she/her) @mostlyaditz.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
That requires empathetic juries. Cornell's lawyer is not going to allow any woman under 50 to make it through voir dire. They'd have an all male jury if the judge would let them.

Ironically, it seems like the actual job of an AI tech CEO is to go on podcasts and talk shows and hold press conferences to say insane things and get earned media. That's something that requires a human speaking to another human.

you will encounter more opportunities in life to change the batteries on a smoke alarm than you will to run into a burning building and no one gives a shit you changed those batteries but it is still very important and why are you waiting on a burning building, know what i’m saying, it’s a metaphor

I want to admit this because it shows how important government regulation is: I would never drink raw milk, but I assumed the cheese making process would remove the danger.

My familiarity with agricultural economics is beyond naive, but is there any reason not to grow alfalfa in a wetter biome and then ship it to feed cattle in the Western states?

My 13 yo has a literal TBR pile in her room that's currently about 18 inches high. We like to sit on either end of the couch with our backs to the armrests and share a blanket while we read. She likes to make oat milk tea lattes for herself and her sister and they drink while they read.

In Portland, I see more and more parents piloting e powered bakfiets with full on surreys over their kids. I personally think that's a way to raise some fragile kids and Portland babies need to be tough [facetious] but you can see they're snug as bugs.
