In times like these, when it feels like there's little we can do as individuals to make the world a better place, we can look to mutual aid for solutions. We can also get inspired by examples of a similar concept in biology, mutualism.
Page One. A grayscale comic titled "Mutualism: Reciprocity in Nature" by Kel. The first page has 10 panels.

The first panel is the Seattle Skyline from Bainbridge Island, with the narration "When talking about the natural world, people often focus on competition, ignoring collaboration, also known as mutualism."

The second panel is a headshot of a personified dog pelt lichen with bunny-ear-like apothecia and dot eyes, who says "I'm Pelt. Lichens like me are partnerships between two or more species. There are many benefits to mutualism, depending on the relationship."

Panel 3 introduces these benefits: Food. A bee (Diadasia nitidifrons) flies toward a mallow flower. Pelt continues, "Many different bees pollinate flowers and receive nectar."

Panel 4: "But this Ethiopian wolf is ALSO a pollinator." A fox-like wolf licks a red hot poker flower.

Panels 5 and 6: "Coyotes and badgers hunt together, as do groupers and eels." Each pair of animals, side by side, faces the other at the panel split.

Panel 7: "Prairie dogs follow bison, both shaping prairies to their liking." A prairie dog stands on a mound in the foreground, a much smaller prairie dog in the middle ground, and finally a huge bison looms in the background.

Panel 8: Shelter. "Figs protect wasp larvae, and maples provide high-rise housing while collecting food through canopy roots." In the foreground on the left, a tiny pollinating fig wasp stands on a bundle of figs, and in the background on the right, maple leaves protrude from moss-and-fern-covered branches.

Panel 9 and 10: Hygiene. "Cleaner fish tidy sea turtle shells, while crows let ants pick off parasites." A sea turtle winks to protect its eye as surgeonfish clean its face and shell. A crow crouches with wings splayed, tiny black dots all over it, in a behavior called passive anting.

There is a color photo of mosses, and a black and white photo of Kel Skonberg with headphones and a shirt doodled on. An image styled like a collage and yearly recap posts. The text reads: You tabled at 4 events (that's three more than last year!) - 2 conventions, 2 zine fests, 63 hours at events, 208 miles driven for furthest event. Text on the right page reads: "Fungi guardians all appear to be invertebrates, particularly gastropods. Thus far, I have only been able to find the guardians when fruiting, and I suspect they burrow to protect the hyphae during other times of the year."
