Today was nice. Met some kittens, went on a 5 mile hike. Saw a fence lizard, a checkerspot butterfly, and a huge bird with a yellow tail that looked like an oropendola-- but there's no way, right??? Not in California. It was too fast for a photo.

Coast Range Fence Lizard is gray in color and it's spotting is washed out by the sunlight. It's sunning in the grass, watching the camera.

Variable checkerspot butterfly is a brown butterfly with many small white spots scattered over its wings. There are also some reddish accents sprinkled here and there. It's resting on a stalk of grass.
