someone once asked me "where do you see yourself in 5 years" i replied "no idea but i want to have read Ulysses" i'm 40% through. the main character just let out a huge fart ("Pprrpffrrppffff," p. 291) and, perhaps i'm back to returning to not knowing where i want to be in 5 years

Oh no! yeah, it just won a major literary prize so that tracks 😅 I also recommend "Headshot" by Rita Bullwinkel; a mesmerizing novel of a teenage womens' boxing tournament And my favorite book of short stories this year, "Our Strangers" by Lydia Davis, most of which are a single sentence long!

"Orbital" by Samantha Harvey! It's almost a "slice of life" of 6 astronauts observing the Earth, juxtaposed against the sheer existential wonder/horror of being so small in the galaxy. The prose was so good -- I started it on a 50-min train ride and nearly missed my stop
