I've seen a ton of AI dev stuff to the effect of "here's my personal toolchain, model selection, etc." but much less to the effect of "here is how our team uses AI and still achieves PR review / does shared architectural thinking / avoids cognitive debt". Is anyone writing on that?

Call 'em out, coach. I'd particularly love to see the phrase "bring the game into disrepute" when you do. There are dark arts, and there are clowns. Miami was the latter in this game, IMO. It was cathartic to watch #Crew96 win.

This is the rule interpretation I'd support. Delaying a restart is a yellow card already, so why not the same standard when an entire team delays kickoff? Either allow the kickoff with only one team on the field, or caution those who delayed the game.

I am once again fascinated by what manages to become The Topic Of Today's Conversation on this platform. Not in a bad way, just in a "huh" way. (Or maybe there's more than one topic, and I'm just seeing a lot of people talk about one thing among a sea of ongoing conversations)

Probably the biggest game of the season for #Crew96 (so far). The team hasn't won the Open Cup since 2002, and this is currently our last hope of any sort for a trophy.

Throw-back Thursday to an article that my team at work read together during the pandemic, and I think is worth returning to. Understanding one's own caucus score (there's an instrument in the article for this) has helped me to calibrate how often I'm speaking in meetings versus listening.

I'm not the only person who cringes every time the ChatGPT commercial comes on in an #MLS broadcast with the elderly woman who appears to have an entire conversation with the tool, not realizing that she isn't talking to another person - right? This feels like a confidence con as a service - right?

I'm always surprised when #Crew96 name two backup goalkeepers on the game day squad. Particularly when there are folks like Herrera and Sejdic who get left off. At least Thiaré is back on the bench for the first time since before Leagues Cup.

I'm all for dunking on ill-advised uses of language models - and this certainly qualifies. But "AI can't do that" isn't really the framing IMO when the hikers - twelve hours into a planned eight-hour climb - decide to keep ascending without consulting AI. That's a decision you own entirely.

Just finished my second election as a ballot inspector. It was a long day (setup started at 6AM, polls closed at 8 PM and I didn't finish my cleanup until after 9 PM) but very, _very_ worth it. I cannot recommend getting involved highly enough.

I wonder when the last time was that #Crew96 has named _two_ reserve goalkeepers to a game day roster for league play. Given that Camacho is _not_ on that roster, that feels ... significant. He's either unavailable through injury, or _really_ out of favor at the moment.

#Crew96 look more dangerous against the leading team in Liga MX than we have against most MLS teams in the last two weeks. And yet we're down 0-1, have seen a penalty kick saved, and Schulte has twice needed to pull out highlight reel stops.

#Crew96 have absolutely zero pressure going into this game against Club America. Every other MLS team has gone out, two of them by shutout. I have no idea whether the players know this, but I kind of hope they do. No fear, just go play the game.

I made one change to Greg's definitions, because I was born in Iowa and lived there until I was two when my family moved to Ohio. I'm counting it, but without that stay Iowa would be in "passing through". In putting this together I realized I've never been to Vermont. Going to need to change that.
A map of the 50 US states and DC, color-coded based on how much time I've spent in each. There are five broad categories that are explained in the context of the post.

The data of the map:
- I've never been to five states: Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada, Mississippi, and Vermont
- I've "passed through" seven: Washington, Colorado, Minnesota, Arkansas, Georgia, West Virginia, and Maine
- I've "visited" a ton, largely on the west coast and the column of states from Texas through North Dakota
- I've "stayed a while" in a ton, largely in the midwest but also in New Mexico, Arizona, Montana, and Wyoming. Also Florida, Alabama, and South Carolina.
- I've "lived in" three: Iowa, Ohio, and Massachusetts

I'm glad that #Crew96 got Gazdag and Giaccone on the field rather than parking the bus with a late lead - but there's also part of me that was morbidly curious how it would go to give Christopher Rogers a professional debut under these conditions.

I note with some shock and no small amount of surprise that, shortly after posting this, #Crew96 now enjoy a 2-1 lead, having taken two shots on target.

Quote skeet with a game released in the year you were born.
The cover of the original release of Dungeons & Dragons (the tabletop game, not a computer game). The cover is an off white with red text reading "Dungeons & Dragons" in a medieval don't, with other text in a sepia tone. There is an illustration of a warrior on horseback, holding a sword, while the horse rears back on its hind legs.

I'm trying to remember what I've said the last few weeks - that the priority from here for #Crew96 should be the two cup competitions that offer us the best chance at a trophy. The problem with that strategy is that there's zero margin for error in cup play. No performances like the last two games.

Games like tonight make me realize how very glad I am that I'm not a soccer coach. I don't dislike any individual #Crew96 player on the field, and the style of play seems ... fine. And yet something definitely feels off, and I don't know how you'd go about fixing it.

Brian's observation from Saturday seems worth remembering tonight, after another of these long range shots causes some chaos - which unfortunately #Crew96 can't capitalize on.

#Crew96 really don't have a left winger these days, do they? Just Amundsen owning the entire touch line?

Does anyone else remember, during the Fitzgerald era, a #Crew96 game where a Columbus defender scooted off the field so as not to delay a restart, only to have the team concede a goal because his spot was open? Maybe Matt Chulis, or Todd Yeagley?

Matt @morphosis7.bsky.social · 20/08/2026
Neil Sika with the really interesting comparison just now, noting that Amundsen and Schelotto have maybe the two most memorable assists in #Crew96 history as they won MLS Cups 2023 and 2008. That is both very apt, and a very surprising combination.

Spending some time tonight exploring some variations on the #Crew96 player-game plot I've been playing around with. Variations include: - Border around cells? - Changing data cell shading by competition - Wondering about cell strategies beyond shading - Color contrast checks - Different palettes
A player-game chart similar to past mockups, where every row is a player, and every column is a game. Games are colored by which competition they are part of, using a three-color palette (league, open cup, and leagues cup). There is a fourth color being used for players who are not available for that game.

There is also a thin white border around every cell in the table, to aid visual separation. This is the same player-game chart as the other images, but with some design variations:

- All games share a single color palette, which is monochromatic (black background for 90 minutes played, and light gray for unused subs).
- Players who are unavailable for a given game are shaded a coral / pale red for those cells
- The key across the top for different games are colored differently, but using a more bespoke color palette than the other option (light yellow, light purple, and light blue).
- There are no borders between cells in this mockupA study in color contrast for a cells. There are about 20 sample rows, where cell values change from 0 to 90, in increments of 5. As value changes, the background of each cell changes from light gray to black.

The question is how to define the color of the text. At the extremes, this is easy: a black background gets white text, and a light gray background gets black text. The question is identifying what value of gray requires the text color to switch between white and black, so thre are calculations throughout the mockup showing the color contrast at each step along the progression.

The transition happens between 41 and 42 on a scale of 0 to 90. At 41, the background has a color of #777777, which has a greater contrast with black text (4.7:1 instead of 4.478:1). However, at 42, the background becomes #747474, and the greater contrast is with white text (4.7:1 compared to 4.483:1).

There is, on the right of the graphic, an alternate treatment of these cells, using inline bar charts (from the left or the right). All cells in these sequences are shaded black, but the size of the bar changes with cell value.

Do I get to enter my current save, or do I have to start from scratch? Vintage Story is a pretty unrelenting death machine in early game, but my current save is 13 years in (nearly 900 hours), I've got multiple farms and steel forging capabilities. Send me _there_ and I'll thank you for the trip.

I would _love_ for a Pern series with seven seasons of runtime. I do wonder how you manage the timeline, because as I recall there are novels in three distinct periods set thousands of years apart (Original trilogy, Moreta, and Dragonsdawn) - released in reverse chronological order. But I'd watch.

I'm feeling much better at halftime of this #Crew96 game than I was after 11 minutes. No idea if the team will be able to rescue a point, but sequences of that first half were actually enjoyable to watch. (Charlotte having a two-goal lead doubtless contributed to their being laid back, though)

Dug into my backups tonight and pulled out (and rebuilt) the "trophies" summary for MLS. This is a very rough prototype - not sure if I want to continue polishing this one. The alt text here has a _lot_ more information, if you're curious.
A screenshot of a multi-panel spreadsheet comparing which teams around MLS have won which trophies in what years. There have been 30 seasons of soccer between 1996 and 2025. During that time, there have been 33 teams to have competed for (or won) one of the six trophies that MLS* teams have competed in.

The six trophies are MLS Cup, the Supporters Shield, the Open Cup, the Canadian Cup, the Leagues Cup, and the CONCACAF championship.

At the top is a panel showing which team won each trophy in a given year (not all trophies were contested in every year). The main panel is a comparison of teams and how many trophies they won each year. To the right is a panel summarizing how many years each team has competed, how many trophies they've won in that time, and what their "trophy rate" is (trophies per year). At bottom is a panel showing how many teams competed that year, and how many trophies were awarded.

(The asterisk by "MLS" is because in 1999 the lower division Rochester Rhinos won the US Open Cup. They are the 33rd team included in this spreadsheet)

I have an Excel question that probably indicates I'm trying to do something unholy. Is there a way to define a custom border shape around cells? I know how to change line style (dotted, solid, double) and thickness - but I want something chamfered in a controlled way.

Eight points in group play isn't bad overall. If we advance, that's a chance for a #Crew96 trophy (and minutes for the players) If we don't, that's less fixture congestion.
