LLM generated Javascript vs LLM generated Elixir in the same file from the same prompt and model. One looks fine, one looks like the slopiest slop south of Sloptown. #ElixirLang

hi @bartblast.com isnt something missing from hologram.page/docs/quick-s...? Ive generated a new phoenix app and added the components mentioned under holo/lib/holo_web/blog. How should I wire this up in the router.ex? Or do I wire it somewhere else?

LLM's are the best code commenters in the world, if you take the time to specify clearly what you want and dont want in a comment. If you make the LLM write the code, make sure you make it write good comments as well.

My LLM wrote this to guard against it.

The throw - catch and raise - rescue dichotomy in #ElixirLang is very confusing. Am I supposed to just know if some library is throwing or raising errors?

It came about because a user asked if it was possible to directly input the totals. I had been thinking about this for some time, and have further ideas on how to make this method more powerful in the future.

mg @morng.bsky.social · 29/08/2026
It is easy to switch between the two methods, using any of the stops/bonuses buttons switches to the old way of calculating, and pressing the total amount switches to the new method of calculating.

Newest version of 18XXc as a new feature. It is now possible to directly input the route value instead of composing it from the stops and bonuses. It takes advantage of the fact that route totals are always a multiple of 10, so it automatically multiplies the input by 10. #18xx

Hi @zachdaniel.dev would you mind sharing what technology you are building your AI stack in? Im guessing elixir and ash, but are there some other key pieces that you would be willing to share? Need to build something similar, would appreciate the info.

Ah ok. Sucks that they nerfed the ACP. Honestly, Anthropic just sucks a bit. I use GTP 5.5 at work. From what I have experienced, it is just as good as 4.7. So I am thinking about switching my personal subscription, because I cant use Pi with the Claude subscription, and I really like Pi.

I am finally building my first Elixir/OTP system (after 1.5 years of really just learning), and I feel Ash is a cheat code for business system concerns, especially when paired with LLM´s. Whenever I see the clanker consulting Ash usage rules on its own, I silently thank you.

@zed.dev hi! Where do I put the agent harness configuration in Zed? e.g. the personal AGENTS.md, the personal skills, personal subagents, slash commands? Is this something I can share with opencode/pi/etc? I am working on a team where people are using different tools and would like to consolidate
agents.md
AGENTS.md
AGENTS.md is a simple, open format for guiding coding agents. Think of it as a README for agents.

Good episode, subscribed. In it you guys mentioned a talk or an interview with 3 people on concurrency and scalability (could not take notes, was on the bike) and that you had a link to it? Was that posted anywhere?

Have patience with my Javascript roots :) Yes this is just something I wish the Elixir compiler could do, so I could write the code the way I feel would be more natural. Just a rant, nothing important.
000
mg @morng.bsky.social · 20/02/2026
I understand how it works. But the translation from text to AST is what the compiler does, and I feel it could be more sensitive to my lack of comprehension skills.

When building a GenServer, some handle_call's belong with some handle_info's. I wish the compiler could handle specifying them together, instead of forcing me to group all handle_call's together, all handle_info's together. To me this is sacrificing code structure to benefit the compiler #ElixirLang

Coding agents have solved the 80/20 Pareto Principle in coding. Now we live in a 99/1 Pareto Principle world.

Model your domain, ask for the rest. I think 95% of CRUD busywork might just go poof with the combined powers of #Ash and LLMs. This is unreasonably effective. #ElixirLang

What Im thinking now about LLM coding is; sure, it is liberating not being held back by gaps in knowledge; yes I can now easily build 10k LOC in 1 week; but can I bring it over the line? Can I finish the work and create something useful? Or will it crumble under the weight of accumulative complexity

Claude Code is an excellent teacher. I thought I had a problem with my Ash validations (argument not allowed to be null, but the resource was created when missing) but turned out to be a known and defined behaviour with Ash.Geneartors The more you know, and the sooner you know it. #ElixirLang

But I think Elixir benefits from its design in this, in that we are mostly writing conditionals and transformational code; since most loops are already written in the Enum/Stream packages.

When I say I know little Elixir, what I really mean is Ive read a lot of books on Elixir and Phoenix and Ecto and Ash, but I havent used it for anything. So I have superficial knowledge but very little tactical knowledge. But I know what I want from the LLM in broad strokes, and I think that is key.
