The icy giant moon Titan. Lurking behind Saturn's rings. Tiny Epimetheus in front.
A complex set of ellipses crosses the top portion of the image: these are Saturn's rings, seen from a highly oblique angle. Behind, a blurry monstrosity—Titan. A small splotch at upper centre is the irregular moon Epimetheus. The background is space, black as pitch.

This is a cliff on comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko. It's about 1 km tall. If you jumped from the top, it would take you 47 minutes to reach the bottom, and you'd probably be OK.
On the right of the image is a sheer cliff face marked with vertical striations; talus lies at its base. The left of the image is in almost total darkness, and the background is deep space.

I'm going to be honest, it took me a minute to figure out why this photo was labelled as a Day Octopus (Octopus cyanea) 🐙📷Ocyrhoe (inaturalist.ca/observations...)
A Day Octopus (Octopus cyanea) sitting camouflaged while a Yellow Boxfish (Ostracion cubicum) swims in front. The fish is a yellowish orange with black spots and is sort of box shaped. The octopus is clinging to the side of something, probably a rock, and is sideways, with its mantle pointing straight down. It has a drab green and beige colour that matches the algae, and it has its papillae raised to match the texture. I can't tell where the octopus ends and the algae begins, partially because the camouflage is excellent and partially because the image is low resolution and blurry. Some coral is in the bottom left. It is light coloured with orange bits on it.

This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again. www.nature.com/immersive/d4...
This line graph illustrates the percentage change in agency staff levels from the previous year for nine major U.S. federal scientific and health organizations between the fiscal years 2016 and 2025. The agencies tracked include the CDC, Department of Energy, EPA, FDA, NASA, NIH, NIST, NOAA, and NSF. For the majority of the timeline between 2016 and 2023, the agencies show relatively stable fluctuations, generally staying within a range of +5% to -5% change per year. However, there is a dramatic and uniform plummet starting in the 2024–25 period. Every agency depicted shows a sharp downward trajectory, with staffing losses ranging from approximately -15% to over -25%. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) shows the most significant decline, dropping to roughly -26%, while the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) shows the least severe but still substantial drop at approximately -15%.

A bright, crisp sunrise over Lake Winnipeg this morning. Perfect conditions for a walk.
The bright orange ball of the sun just peeks over the horizon in the mostly clear sky. A small smudge of grey/orange clouds are smeared around the top of the image. The bright orange sunbeams sweep across the enormous snow-covered frozen lake lighting up, the purple coloured snow. A few grasses poke out of the snow in the foreground on the shore.

The small pond animal Hydra vulgaris doesn’t have a mouth or anus. Whenever it needs one, it flexes muscles at the top of its body, ripping a massive hole in its flesh, then eats and shits through this gaping wound before resting to heal it shut.

A chilly sunrise on Lake Winnipeg this morning. About -25°C, but no wind so it was a lovely walk.
The golden light of the sun lights up a thin sliver sky along the horizon from where it sits just in the clouds above it. The snow covered lake and mackerel. Clouds in the sky are all a gray blue.

Open up this picture fully. Then look at the surface of Mars. Then look up to the top right. Spot Mars' moon Phobos high in the sky. Then notice the bright spot beside Phobos. That's Earth.
A forlorn landscape of layered rocks in the foreground, with hills fading into the background haze. At upper top right, a small crescent moon, and a bright star.

Saturn's tiny icy moon Mimas hangs in space against a backdrop of the giant planet itself. The rings cross the bottom of the view, and cast their shadows onto the planet beyond. NASA Photojournal PIA06142, taken by the Cassini spacecraft on 7 November 2004 some 3.7 million km from Saturn.
A black swath of shadow crosses the scene from top left to bottom right. The background is various shades of blue and grey. A small, illuminated crescent is at upper right. The lower portion of the image is lighter grey/brown.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.
