I have just discovered Darren S. Layne's #review of my 2023 #book on uprisings and political mediation in the eighteenth-century British Empire. I'm honoured that he took the time to read my interdisciplinary and very continental exploration that is, indeed, "only moderately a work of #history" […]

Another #OpenScience knowledge exchange is bringing members of the Dutch OS community together in Utrecht today. One of our goals for the day was formulating community statements for our local communities and giving each other feedback. Nice snacks for coffee help!

Are there any #Kubernetes users out here who can point me to resources on how to push commits from a #pod to a #Github repository? I suppose this also depends on the individual Kubernetes set-up, which is managed by my institute. But advice, experiences and links are very much appreciated!

I read a long Github issue on making BlueSky and Mastodon interoperable. Despite all the challenges, I at least hope for a read-and-repost connection in the nearer future. That colleagues are now on all the different platforms is a pain.

Verschiedene Hersteller. Ich bin gerade sprachlos!

Interesting discussion about archival triage, (digital) storage costs, and the pros & cons of mass digitisation. One issue that should also be mentioned: (Digital) historians usually don't get much funding for their own technology efforts, which creates great dependence on archival services.

What is the "best" menstruation tracker app in terms of data safety? I would like to pay for a good app with a simple and clear interface. Flo is very much about the expert advice and community discussions, which I don't need. And I have doubts about their data policy. Any recommendations?

Really interesting talk and great discussion on the never-ending challenges of HTR for historical sources! I am, personally, very much interested in using OCR4all. Perhaps other researchers / historians in the Netherlands are interested in setting up a joint infrastructure and sharing training data?

I'd like to congratulate everyone who got the NWO Open Science Grant in the 2nd round of 2023. I didn't, but participating in a call that places emphasis on peer review was a great experience. I hope I did the projects I had to evaluate justice and am looking forward to seeing the success proposals.

Very interesting Call For Papers: Historical Arguments and the Digital, June 25-27 2024 (Deadline Dec 15th 2023) historicalarguments.wordpress.com/call-for-pag... #digitalhumanities #earlymodern
Description of Call for Papers: This conference seeks to address the ‘so-what’, promoting conversation as to how new research processes and methodologies might build into and contribute to traditional narratives. Though the building of digital resources and tools are in themselves important analytical and interpretative acts – and are slowly beginning to be recognised as such within the wider humanities – they are also vital building blocks for historical arguments that can exist as exemplars of both digital and traditional scholarship. This conference offers a space to consider how this gap might be closed once more, encouraging historical case studies reflecting on the ways in which digital methodologies have offered a means of exploring historical sources and expanding historical narratives and fostering digital history research questions that push beyond merely the descriptive to the interpretative and analytical.
