Mora don't sound like a fascist challenge: difficult.

In your life, you will deprive and destroy many things. Show Certainty when choosing what you change, consume, and destroy. Show Mercy when choosing what you permit, forego, and spare. These, I think, are the means to a virtuous life.

Don't fall for the gilded lies of neutrality, of pacifism, of the Tyrant's peace. Don't fall equally for the bloody errors of hatred, of enemy, of exclusion. All of us living share a single goal, to survive the day and see joy in our next of kin. The larger your family, the greater the joy you see

When Violence is Inevitable, we can become Good only by choosing how and where we enact it. Which ideas, systems, and conditions we destroy. Which ones we ignore, or forgive. Which ones we're willing to enact violence to protect.

Apologies for conflating philosophy and politics. They're entwined, but the threads are of different make. My point is: You can't be a good person by never hurting anyone. That ship sailed well before you had a name.

But I do have a conclusion. If violence is unavoidable, then we can't build our ethics around its exclusion. Attempts to do so have relied on and reinforced a willing ignorance of its nature in the first place. Liberals who won't acknowledge Power. Conservatives who completely ignore Position.

I don't have a solution for it. I don't know of a way to excise the sin of violence from the gift of life. They seem inextricably linked, like a fire and the destruction of its fuel. It's all a bit self-consuming. Our entire lineage from the first life outward has been an ouroboros.

I don't think the universality of violence relieves me of the moral compunction to resist it. It doesn't absolve my original, voracious sin. At best I'm simply dragging everyone to my level, getting comfort from knowing I'm not the only sinner. This whole thing bothers me, more or less, always.

This is very troubling for creatures of empathy and ideal. I'd rather /not/ be enacting a cruel injustice on another by my actions. I think it'd be best not to encroach on bird or beast or bug, fish or fern or fungus. They have all the same *right* to life that I do. I must seem quite the monster.
