This is where Walnut starts — black walnut hulls from my mom's yard and the horse trail. They simmer for days and eventually become the soft warm parchment in the fabric. It starts with someone walking a horse trail with a bucket. #moonlitdyeworks #naturaldye #blackwalnut #dyeprocess
A large pot on a stove filled with fresh black walnut hulls in water, ranging from bright green to dark brown, at the start of the dye extraction process.

New! Dragon Candle This month's design features a small, serpentine dragon wrapped around a magical candlestick. There's a tiny bit of metallic stitching in there, too, because I love shiny things...like dragons. www.patreon.com/badstitch/po... #CrossStitch #StitchSky #DarkAcademia #Dragon
A cross stitch staged with navy ribbons, crystals and stoned, some floral pieces, and an embossed book. The stitches show a black dragon with bat-like wing, wrapped around a candle and candlestick. The dragon has long horns, and a gradient of blue, purple and pink along his edges like a liminal aura. The candlestick has shiny, metallic floss. BAD Stitch.

Linen vs Lugana: Lugana is an evenweave, stitches are consistent and grid-like. Linen isn't, slightly more organic feel. In the dye bath, Lugana always comes out lighter. Sometimes dramatically. Sometimes barely. Neither is better, just different. #handdyedfabric #crossstitch #fabriceducation

He looks a lot like the little baby Dragon (named after Puff) that is currently living under my deck with his mom - hoping to get them caught pretty soon so they stay stafe.
Two cats on a wooden deck in front of a green lawn. On the left, looking into the distance, is a black cat mom and to the right is her grey little puffball of a kitten drinking water out of small bowl.

I haven't taken my QSnap out to measure - but these feel like these clamps are maybe a little bit shorter. The corners were a bit more noticable to me.

The 8x8 is $15. I picked mine up at Beeyoutiful Sip & Stitchery in Northern Illinois — they also sell online. Nurge makes other sizes and colors too so worth checking their full range.

Moonlit Dye Works @moonlitdyeworks.bsky.social · 24/05/2026
One honest caveat — the corner areas stay slightly looser than the rest of the frame. If your design runs close to the corners you may need to reposition your fabric. Worth knowing before you start.

Moonlit Dye Works @moonlitdyeworks.bsky.social · 24/05/2026
I stitched for two hours without retightening once. For context — with most hoops and frames I'm retightening every 45-60 minutes. That sound is what held tension actually feels like.
130
Moonlit Dye Works @moonlitdyeworks.bsky.social · 24/05/2026
The clamps on this frame went on easily. Genuinely easily. Not "easier than QSnaps" easy — just easy. The orange felt strips are something I add between the clamps and fabric to prevent snagging. Especially important on linen.

Moonlit Dye Works @moonlitdyeworks.bsky.social · 24/05/2026
QSnaps are the direct competitor to this design. I've used them a long time but two things always frustrated me — the clamps are genuinely hard to get on and off, and the tension doesn't always hold the way I need it to mid-project.
