It's easy to romanticize the indie scene if you only look at huge hits. Your average bedroom coder indeed doesn't get far. One of the first things I accepted going into my project is that it probably won't go anywhere no matter my passion. I don't easily recommend going indie for that reason.

How do other indie devs advertise their work? So far social media hasn't done well for me (in fact I've been suspended from X suddenly.) The lack of engagement has kept me from trying to get a Steam/GOG page or do something like crowdfunding.

Good that they are trying to fix what they can. Not easy to juggle all this at once. Mind you, I still expect that powers above will continue abusing Itch as much as they can. Makes me wary to defend them too much going forward because I still think platforms have some room for fault here, too.

In my case, the issues on Itch directly affect me. I'm among the devs who are/were censored in some fashion. So it's easier to speak on their issues when I have experience with them.

The early stages of my game started around 2021. Back then all I really saw about Itch was "this is where indie games go." I should've done more research then, and before I uploaded work there again more recently. Development hell has left me out of the loop when it comes to platforms.

Here's a screenshot of someone on your staff lying to the community that LGBT games weren't impacted, while you were blanket deindexing yuri games (which are lesbian, not NSFW). As a journalist, I have a responsibility to correct misinformation from corporations. Stop lying to your community!

LGBT games are not deindexed. a couple games got deindexed due to their identifying tags (such as "adult") but they are not an inherent part of the temporary deindexing of nsfw content.

Not only is Vivi flawed in its design but Cauldron itself is a combo machine. Cauldron wasn't exactly AWFUL before but now it has a cracked enough card to play with. But Vivi's design is the real issue. Dorks in Izzet almost always have a restriction on how to spend the mana. Why doesn't Vivi?

I've had that around since the start, yeah. While not all of those are necessarily in the demo, they do come up later in-game, so I wanted to make those clear *now* for any potential followers. But even the full game won't be pornographic. Sexuality just happens to be a significant theme.

Been trying to seek out support from a few friends and it I swear some of them just don't care if I feel worse. I tried venting and got told "not like [my game] would bring in much income". Yeah you might be trying to sound "real" or "pragmatic" but that's so fucking hurtful.

Yep. Not long after I launched my game on Itch, this outside pressure kicked off and I've lost almost all visibility since. I had a week or so where I was actually getting impressions, now I have NOTHING besides the views I get from direct links. I'm deindexed solely because of the yuri tag.

I have a feeling this was the intent from the start. Censorship and control always starts at the worst things to scrub first, then we gradually watch it trickle down and remove anything else the authority doesn't want. I just don't trust that this is resulting from sloppy work. It's targeted.
