Both fans and imitators key on the mannerisms of Quitely's style: full lips, pebbly mark-making, few spot blacks, visible seams. But those quirks are hung on a frame of high fidelity draftsmanship. The subtly receding shield and gestural hair on the nape of the neck describe the figure sublimely.

A pencil bust of Superman by Frank Quitely.

It’s a fine ending for this movie. It’s just that the movie’s just alright. Mostly it struggles to pick a lane between Minority Report thriller versus Close Encounters big questions/ideas

Saw it for the first time early this year. Was sort of only just enjoying it until the last scene or two when everything locked into place and I was utterly gobsmacked by what it had been quietly doing all along. An absolute favorite.

Hi all, I'm Jim. My online friends know me as jimjimman. 😂 I have Spinal Muscular Atrophy. I'm trying to raise some money to pay for a backup manual wheelchair in case my motorized wheelchair breaks down. The state of Louisiana and Medicaid don't pay for backups, so I'm looking for a little help.

Rich alludes here to the wisdom of the judges at the Nuremburg trial: “To initiate a war of aggression, therefore, is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole."

I will say, I have some thoughts/musings that I’m not really into posting publicly. I definitely have issues with how they’ve been run so largely I think you’re spot on. No real reason a place this unique with a burgeoning market should be that far in the hole

110

mooltipass.bsky.social @mooltipass.bsky.social · 19/02/2025

Which, bad for me, and ultimately will be bad for them as those folks leave eventually rather than them catering to new audiences

200

mooltipass.bsky.social @mooltipass.bsky.social · 19/02/2025

The model did indeed die out for a reason. Upgrading the collection would be a massive boon, but if they’re running this much of a deficit I can’t imagine they have the funds to do so. I also suspect the DVD reliance is a feature, catering to older community members who only have/want DVD

100

mooltipass.bsky.social @mooltipass.bsky.social · 19/02/2025

That and since they let people just hold discs stuff can be out for ages that they technically have

000

mooltipass.bsky.social @mooltipass.bsky.social · 19/02/2025

Can’t disagree. It’s an amble for me when I go. And that’s not a thing I’d drive out of my way for. I do think their back title selection is decent but their organization is all over the map and makes it incredibly hard to find things since they have tons of different sections

200

mooltipass.bsky.social @mooltipass.bsky.social · 19/02/2025

Which, even when I used to live 10 minutes away it was too far. It’s a neighborhood spot and I wish there were more for most neighborhoods

000

mooltipass.bsky.social @mooltipass.bsky.social · 19/02/2025

Fair to say. They do get their new releases quick but I’m not eagle eyed for that so I wonder when. The new stuff also seems to get scooped quick and only a copy or two arrives. It’s not a great destination visit but an invaluable local hangout

200

mooltipass.bsky.social @mooltipass.bsky.social · 19/02/2025

I wish they brought in a few more 4Ks, but BVid does thankfully at least get new release blus. Having said all that, the core of a sustainable model has to be the events and coffee/non-profit of it all. I’m a nerd for it, live less than a mile away and I don’t use the video side a ton

000

mooltipass.bsky.social @mooltipass.bsky.social · 18/01/2025

Which drives me wild, it was a conscious choice to say masking doesn’t matter. And it does, it matters so much

000

mooltipass.bsky.social @mooltipass.bsky.social · 18/01/2025

Frustratingly, I think they never even installed the equipment to do it in most theaters. They went with the 1.88 ratio screens which means they just don’t have the masking anymore. The screen is the screen and they chose the option that saved space/construction costs

210

mooltipass.bsky.social @mooltipass.bsky.social · 18/01/2025

The lack of proper masking capability in modern theaters is a big part of my ambivalence about seeing movies theatrically lately. It’s just a brutal thing
