[Harry Potter related] I've tried to figure out what makes the Harry Potter fandom tick. Best I can figure, the most important factor is that it's an active fandom with the weight of nostalgia, which renders most suggestions of similar media pointless; folks who engage with it want subsumed int[...]

Dale's courtier garb is peculiar. An expensive silk casual suit, professionally tailored, it has special threading to produce flowers and flames in the ultraviolet spectrum, but in the visible spectrum is the beiges and browns so characteristic of Asim's biome. She also has a suit resembling a [...]

Cute things my Traveller character Dale Flint does: 1) Dale has a cache of instant coffee stolen or purchased or bargained from every place they go, even though the ship has a truly magnificent gourmet autochef. She usually opts for the autochef's coffee, and has been having Turkish coffee now [...]

Dale Flint is a partisan for her homeworld, but is not going back there if she can avoid it. She regards its people as victims of one regime who then were victimized by colonial conquerors, and thinks they should be free. But it's not a culture that she is in a hurry to return to. She shows her[...]

*En route to Asim, Dale returns to her quarters after her shift. She sets her social status to "drinking," a cacophemism usually for when she's sober but not wanting to human and not fit for duty. But this time, she does drink a bit. Not much, but enough to take the edge off and dull things jus[...]

Catra's why I started estrogen. The actual reasoning is a little unclear, part of it is "oh I identify with her dangerously bad abandonment issues, I should start estrogen," some of it is "wow, I can't possibly be worse than her, I should start estrogen." #she-ra #spop #trans

ICE took two more people from my local courthouse today. The wife of one of the guys who was taken showed up shortly after. She just had surgery. She was worried about paying rent and feeding her kids. This is happening *every day* in Massachusetts. Lives are being destroyed every single day.

Maybe one of the most important messages that trans people can internalize is that there is no “true trans.” Transition is a *practical choice* we make based on what will best serve our lives. Transness is a social identity that emerges out of that context.

A full color page from Yokohama Shopping Log by Ashinano Hitoshi, depicting the moon low over the sea, its light brilliantly lighting the edges of nearby clouds in the sky and causing the flowers among the brush along the seaside to flair brilliant white. The sea itself has waves and ripples, producing a sort of column of light of the moon's reflection. Most of the colors on the page are shades of deep blue, with some green grasses nearer the point of view.

I suggest you do not do so, out of spite; make folks wait longer to eulogize you, make them wait to "discover" your art decades later when you're not around to speak of its meaning. Your art is definitely great. I'll be pissed as hell when you're at last "discovered too late." The ghouls can wait.

In a broader sense, it seems worth bringing up other situations where dance was made to render a character uncanny. In the remake of Suspiria, a character is danced to death, her body torn and twisted like the other dancer was twisting and crushing a poppet. Looking further back, Fritz Lang's M[...]
