She thinks, nervously, Fuck. My mother’s armor. They think I’m a fellow professional, not a new recruit. But if I decline, I’ll look like a coward! She says, “ah… well…”

They stand facing off in the courtyard.

The person thinks, okay, breathe. It’s not about winning it’s just practice.

The person steels herself. I’ve trained hard, it’s just a friendly bout. I can do this.

The person is flat on her back. The label text says “exactly 12 seconds later.” Her opponent stands over her.

She levers herself up on her elbows. She’s thinking, “shit. Shit. Shit. I should have seen that coming the blow and the fall. It’s fine. It’s fine. I’ll just pick myself back up—“

#HELLBREAKERS (chapter 3) in which serado observes a conversation & hears an interesting word (1/3)

A crowded tavern. A tiefling man faces away from the viewer. he thinks, “who is that woman? Why do I know her face? Where did I meet here…?”

The man remembers. “Ah, that’s right.” He thinks of a ballroom he can see only from behind the archway. He was not invited. The woman is Helia Belunne, matriarch of house Belunne. He finishes his drink, thinking. “What’s the matriarch of a chelaxian noble house doing in a tavern in the middle of Isger? S’pose it’s up to ol’ serado to figure it out.”

The man walks outside. He goes behind the tavern. He takes off his belt scarf, and tucks it around his neck, as it shimmers with magic and transforms his appearance to an ordinary human man. A descriptive box notes, “masquerade scarf - allows the wearer to assume an illusory disguise for an hour once per day.” He thinks, “damn useful, this thing is.”

Back in the tavern which is noisy and crowded. The two women are still talking. The man leans against a pillar. He thinks, Damn, can’t hear a thing over this racket.

One woman stands, and puts something on the table.

Finishing up a little piece for our Curtain Call table, while we're doing Favors in Vyre, we also swung by Tartuffo's Crab Shack on our ranger's suggestion. They do not serve crab but they have the best fish and chips in the city. I just like when they hang out.
