My reply to a thread elsewhere about 'most embarassing moment in audio'...
A caption that reads: "Degree music composition/performance/dsp thing where I worked with contemporary dancers. Recorded close contact/clothing sounds of them dancing and moving in a space with a view to processing/amplifying them back, triggered by motion sensing in Max.

Anyway, the place I recorded the first pass of sounds had creaky floorboards. 20 year old me didn’t notice or think this would be a problem, just part of the sound of the piece. These sounds were pitch-shifted and amplified in realtime for the 1st rehearsal and… well… everytime a dancer moved it sounded like a massive fart.

Good times."

Peak organism.

Messing around with a GUI design for a little Reaktor plugin. About a decade late for the platform (since NI became equity bait and pretty much stopped innovating). A Reaktor to VST wrapper would have been amazing.

For those of you with NI Reaktor, I just released an 8-tap stereo delay I've been working on (and very much off) since 2020. It's based on the architecture of the Korg DL8000R but I've added a diffusion network to the feedback loop. Grab it for free via: monomoon.co.uk/posts/d8k-re...

Appreciate I've become a repost machine but just workin' on my own shit and not sure everything (anything?) needs a comment from me atm. New followers, I am real, unlike many of you. Here's some humanity confirming content: Forest scared by something [unknown] outside.
A tabby cat looking anxiously past the camera. He has a small white bib. Behind him is the warm orange glow of a lamp. His eyes have pleasing specular reflections.

Bought a streamdeck for audio work, which obviously, immediately turns into me designing my own icons for it. Combined with some of the TC desktop controllers makes for a nice mouse-free mixing system. Plus Forest for company, who doesn't mind sonics unless it's water sounds, which freak him out.

Previous post brought to you by wanting to share a snippet of something I found in my archive whilst sorting through it over the weekend. No recollection of making this track (or this start to it anyway). Much of the archive is crap, most are, but keep 'everything'.

Woke this morning to find my cat watching the sun rise. Sometimes I feel like he's here to teach me something profound, if only I'd listen.

This little fella started 2024 as a stray and ended it with a favourite blanket (and a favourite side of his 2nd favourite blanket).
A tabby cat with white socks and bib is curled on his back with his belly out and his arms outstrecthed above his head. He has his eyes shut and he is grinning.

Huh. After 25 years (!!!) my OB12 suddenly threw a pretty aggressive memory error, cycling through all my programs and patches telling me one by one that they were lost... but they aren't lost and everything's working again now as if nothing's happened. Wut. Cool. Cool...

Update. Forest seems to be settling in. He doesn't go full-ball or shrimp, but does a good half-shrimp with good form and points for expression. Bizarrely he doesn't jump-up on stuff, shelves, sideboards, equipment. It's weird, I don't trust it. Also, turns-out that humans can be woken by smells.

Checking pre-masters away from the studio (... in bed). Absolutely loving the Chord Mojo 2 as a proper high-quality DAC that I can run from a tablet.

Coppola's love of German Expressionism looks to be present and although I'm not sure how involved he was in the final film, there's obvious Ron Fricke influence.

New digs pt2. GIK acoustics have got quite a cool room visualiser. A few new things for me to build (superchunks in the corners) but otherwise this is all existing traps I've made previously. Feel like I need more scattering & less damping though. gikacoustics.co.uk/room-acousti...

Packing things and came across a rare photo of teenage me DJing in some woods. Not sure whose copy of Arrow 'Hot Hot Hot' that is. Floorkiller! 😅

Yeah, I bet voice-over artists can't wait to get their hands on a technology specifically designed to undermine their craft and replace them. 20+ years using Sound Forge but I'll be tapping-out now in favour of Acon. (Incidentally, Magix are currently looking for new owners. Surprising, huh?).
A clipping from a website that reads "This brand-new, AI-driven feature transforms your texts into high-quality voiceovers with the touch of a button – and offers translations into up to 100 languages. The AI eliminates the manual work so you can fully concentrate on creative tasks. A revolutionary workflow for anyone that works with text – from content and podcast creators to voiceover artists."

Notion's bollocks 'AI' features absolutely smashing it out the park again. For those wondering, the fridge doors in Shadows of Doubt are my current fridge recorded (IIRC) with a Beyerdynamic M201TG because it's my best mic at dealing with high SPL.

In my pursuit of a more flexible, portable mixing situation I picked up a Chord Mojo2 as a DAC/headphone amp. I've been using it almost exclusively for a week now and it is properly excellent. Big recommend.

That video also this amazingly literary comment from a former NYC subway driver (allegedy or not - it's so good I don't care). "...the rushing unknowables of a 200 ton machine hurtling through the dark entrails of a city collapsing."
A youtube comment reading: "I operated , like most train operators, all the NYC lines. This music in the most uncanny way conveys the rhythms, the deep frequencies, the dangers, the sudden screams and the rushing unknowables of a 200 ton machine hurtling through the dark entrails of a city collapsing. What a musical triumph!"

A while back I started building an emulation of the Marshall Time Modulator (AKA Darth Vader voicebox / Joy Division sadness smusher). I feel like NI were a tenth as innovative as they once were we'd have a Reaktor -> VST wrapper by now, but it'll never be.

Fascinating spectrogram of a synthesised sound I made a while back. The shape of the spectral modulation creates a wide-angled view of a curved plane, with multiple vanishing points. #gameaudio

Bit-by-bit getting closer to finishing a multitap delay I started building in Reaktor ages ago. It's based on the topology of the Korg D8000R (with added diffusion in the feedback loop). If you have Reaktor and want a build in the near future hmu.
