In late October, as we both hung, I felt this pang under the ribs, longing ghost, surely not #hunger or lust long lost on us skeletal fiends hanging 'round gallows, guillotines. So I pushed it down, loudly cackled as to work my bones hoping they'd adjust, ...but it persists. #vss365

Hi guys, sooo... I came here to say that I have k-fi now! For now I am only opened for character fullbodies in two styles, but I plan on adding an option for full arts in the future. Gotta still figure out how to promote this thing, lol #digitalart #artcommissions #buymeacoffee #characterart

#SenseWrds 67 Whom shall I give the flower? Whom? The question seems to loom o'er poor ol' me as days pass and I fuss o'er its poor petals. With time it becomes clear to see the flower's just for me and I don't have to settle.

#SenseWrds 66 Whenever I'm let be, look back and start to flee, Vampires haunting me, fears I won't let enter, lest I face what's at their centre, that behind me a mirror and it couldn't be clearer, I'm not letting reflection work on me.

#vss365 #dawn
dawned on me that dawn,
the birds trilled loving tones,
the sky took on a hint
of newborn baby skin
and the bird - so bright and true

drowned out by the drones
duly doing their drills,
duty to keep days dull,
do all that is due
and drive down roads till dead.

I think not, came a sign,
that blush, loving bird brush,
a feathery gown, donned in due
to the dawn's wondrous hue.
I shall don baby pink

and be.

How easy to forget plants need water,
how easy to block out, rays of sun.
I tower over plants, casting shadow,
for I'm foreign lord with watering can.
Dispense at you, you tedious, thankless weed
water off my back, sweat off kingly brow.
Sing to you my peony, call you to drown!
Watch as pink bud opens, shows its own crown...
Only you know my mercy.
Your softness — only I.

I would... write, but I sit here, at ends with each sentence, searching for a keepsake's remembrance, the testament's last... rite, this e x c r u t i a t i n g l y slow death of the art — no, that's not... right, much as it often hurts to give a fuck about, it's me who dies. Poems live on without.

Held In Tension by C.M. Shevek. A poetry collection available for free here: mega.nz/file/rt5RiBT... The cover art was designed by @paulwelsh89.bsky.social, taking inspiration from the title poem Held In Tension. It was written over a period of deconstruction + transformation, may it give you hope.
Front cover of a book titled "Held In Tension" by C.M. Shevek. Text in white smallcaps serif, title at top, author at bottom right. Cover art is centered with a white border and red background. Art is a collage of traditional art pieces, top is a painting of a volcanic eruption overlaid with textiles, papers, jewelry in an evocative style, bringing about an emotional yet serene scene.Red background, white serif text. Top says “Dendritic tendrils extend to the heavens,
clawing at the stars, prophetic plasma slipping through the filaments like smoke through a sieve.” in italicized font.
Middle says "A story of transformation in three acts, told through melodramatic poems of self-reflection, often utilizing metaphors from science and the natural world to match the perceived weight of experience.

C.M. Shevek languishes in passive self-hatred and a longing for innocence/ignorance in Act I, lingers in a black hole of depression and non-existent self-image while processing tragedy and personal breakdown in Act II, and rebuilds themself in Act III to a muddy clay of acceptance and mindfulness, forming a worldview that can be beaten but cannot be broken. A worldview that holds both mankind’s need for meaning and the harsh meaninglessness of the world in clear, absurdist clarity.

Find hope through camaraderie in the honest, unflinching distillations of life and emotion in this collection." in smallcaps font.
Bottom says "Follow @surelyshevek.bsky.social for poetry updates

Held In Tension

Emotional outbursting
seams reigned back,
garroted; deprived of
life and another’s sight:
my held-in tensions.

Held intention
and unoffered redemption
wrecked my mind;
here, have it all—it’s gushing
from my pierced side.

Views of grace compete
with toxic waste leaks,
and the frog with
three eyes sewn wide
holds itself
in tension.

Dangling from the heavens
with a single finger
embedded in the clouds;
They hold me taut,
a wound snare drum
sounding out.

#Okapi

It's a zebra! It's a deer!
No! It's more like a giraffe!

Within the dense rainforest
stirs a shadow, until realizing!
Not a shadow, but an adapted
baby with water resistant pelt
and long melanin tipped tongue
communicating in infrasound
and scenting feet glands

Endangered and elusive
stealthing in the Congo
a test for humanity
to value life over
poached greed
