Science is not only done in English!! We show that by doing searches in other languages we increased our understanding of the $ cost of invasive species (by a lot!!) This is Specially important in areas where English is not widely spoken www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Well done #OpenAlex! Huge potential to make a transformative difference, and UI is certainly part of that (but also nice to hear about the ongoing work on the data side of things)

Important to combine tractable research questions with a complex systems approach to conceptualising problems & their solutions or mitigations. This paper is definitely worth reading.

Loving this paper 'Rethinking barriers and enablers'. How many thousands of weak research studies have reduced complex change to 'identifying and addressing barriers and enablers'? Here's how to do better! journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10....

Amazingly enough, the first attempt to simulate galaxy interactions (1941) predated computers & used light bulbs! The trick is that the gravitational force and electromagnetic force (for light) both vary as 1/distance^2; Erik Holmberg realized this meant he could use light to simulate galaxies. 🧪

The computer BESK and an early attempt to simulate galactic dynamics
The first N-body simulation of interacting galaxies, even producing spiral arms, was performed by Erik Holmberg in Lund (1941), not with a numerical computer, but by his arrangement of movable light-b...

"A Reconnected Earth" will be launched this weekend as a complement to the similarly titled art exhibit. Includes my piece on the potential of the social sciences & humanities to center those most affected by climate change. Thanks to the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design for leading this!
