The super flu is no joke! I had Covid four times before but this virus is a whole new level. My oxygen levels even dropped this time and it is taking forever to feel any better.

The International Panel on the Information Environment (IPIE) has released its latest Synthesis Report: 𝘛𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘈 𝘎𝘭𝘰𝘣𝘢𝘭 𝘈𝘐 𝘈𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘍𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬: 𝘈𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘙𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴. www.linkedin.com/feed/update/...
The growing integration of AI into critical sectors of society, from healthcare to education, has the potential to support widespread social transformation and progress. However, AI systems also have the power to perpetuate biases, deepen inequalities, and cause environmental harm. Accurately evaluating the risks and benefits of an AI system requires a careful audit. Current approaches to auditing, however, rarely involve independent auditors, provide sufficient evidence, or account for global impacts.

The culmination of 12 months of work by the IPIE’s Scientific Panel on Global Standards for AI Audits, this report explains why a global framework for AI audits must provide:
🔹common standards and procedures
🔹auditor independence and qualifications
🔹auditor access to evidence
🔹 transparent audit results
🔹evaluation of AI’s disparate global impacts

In a visa application, I need to prove that my husband is actually my husband and that we have a real relationship. A marriage certificate is not enough, and our two-year-old baby is not enough. How do I do this? I was advised to share our WhatsApp conversations, phone logs, and photos of us.

An unscientific observation while grading my 200-level class: I got much more original thinking out of my students from an assignment that asked them to make a 2 minute TikTok-style video "explainer" than I did out of the final research paper.

Call for Papers: Special Issue on “AI, Business, and Human Rights”
11 Nov 2024 to 10 Feb 2025
Call for Papers

Special Issue on “AI, Business, and Human Rights”

The Business and Human Rights Journal (BHRJ) is pleased to announce a call for papers (CFP) for a special issue about the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI), business, and human rights. Unlike other dual-use technologies, AI is being promoted primarily by the private sector, giving businesses significant influence over the consequences of its implementation across different sectors. As AI technologies developed by private industry with little regulatory oversight become increasingly pervasive, it is crucial to advance our understanding of their possible negative or positive impacts on human rights and the role of concepts derived from the field of business and human rights, and how a human rights-based approach might address these consequences.
