Join Erika Ray & her Freedom Team in court tomorrow, 2/17, 10am, Rm 402, 26th & California. Erika has been locked up over 18 years, and we hope tomorrow is the first day of her return home. bit.ly/FreeErikaRay
In 2010 Erika Ray was convicted of armed robbery
and 1st degree murder.

Erika did not plan or perpetrate a robbery or a murder, nor did the state need to claim that she did in order to charge her under a theory of accountability.

Accountability laws overwhelmingly impact women and youth of color, often for proximity to events, not direct actions. People are found culpable by their relationship to the "doer" or the allegation that they should have foreseen and prevented events. In short, girls and women
“should know better”.

As the article says, Chicago PD has 11,564 sworn officers and this report will claim 121 more are needed. Updating my chart: 11,564/2.72 million x 100k CPD has **425** officers per 100k residents and they want to increase to 429 (+ hundreds of civilians). This is not a serious way to run a city.
Chicago has significantly fewer non-sworn members of its police department than some other large cities, including New York and Los Angeles. Both Mayor Brandon Johnson and Supt. Larry Snelling have endorsed that shift, but made little progress since they took office in 2023.

In all, CPD needs 405 new civilian positions and an additional 121 sworn positions, according to the study. The boundaries of the city's 22 police districts, last revised in 2012, should not be changed, according to the study.Stephanie Kollmann

@SLKollmann

The US spends a great deal on policing, but Chicago has many more police per capita than other large US cities.

If Chicago had the US average number of police, CPD headcount would be under 6,600.

If Supt. Brown aligned CPD headcount with Dallas PD, it would be 6,316.

Police Officers per 100k Residents, 2020 10 Largest Cities and IL State/National Averages

San Diego, San Antonio, Austin, Phoenix about 125-175

Houston, Dallas, US AVERAGE, Los Angeles about 225-250

IL AVERAGE about 300

Philadelphia, New York about 400

Chicago about 470
