Disneyland is now the Creepiest Place on Earth. When a company synonymous with childhood feels emboldened and insulated by a culture that treats children’s data as corporate assets. This should raise the alarm for every parent about what type of future “surveillance capitalism” is building.

7/ A critical‑thinking curriculum cannot rest on anthropomorphism. It must rest on technical accuracy. Students deserve to learn what these systems actually do, how they fail, and why their outputs must be interrogated, not trusted.

6/ If we want students to develop skepticism and epistemic clarity, adults must model those habits. That starts with accurate language, not metaphors that inflate capability or imply understanding.

5/ What we do have: early studies showing students offload thinking to AI, weaken problem‑solving stamina, and become dependent on automated shortcuts.

4/ And claiming that every future worker must know how to “ethically” use AI is repeating the AI industry’s preferred narrative. There are no established ethical standards, no regulatory guardrails, and no evidence this benefits children.

3/ Framing these systems as “intelligent” anthropomorphizes them - a mistake that has already had devastating consequences for some young users - and imports assumptions that are false. These systems do not think. They generate patterns.

Is it cognitive surrender if the misassociation happens during the development of skills? For children it seems more like “cognitive imprinting” or “pre-empting.”

LLMs have internalized not just human expression but the distortions imposed by commercial platforms. Their training data is human expression downstream of algorithmic manipulation shaped by recommendation engines, outrage loops, engagement metrics, and social performance.

If AI companies can't be penalized for design flaws that allow harm because they are "used by others," when they are expressly created to be "used by others," any consumer protection law is unenforceable as it creates the same legal paradox that has shielded social media platforms for far too long.
