Since renaming "AI" is on the table, how about "Artificial and Sociopathic" per Vision's description of Ultron?

My favorite time of year - the Zurich Film Festival! This year I am seeing several documentaries on the theme of so-called artificial intelligence.

Gloria Steinem was the most important feminist organizer of the modern American Women’s Rights Movement. She was poised intelectually to bring women of all races/backgrounds and their concerns into the platforms of feminism as well as fighting for the inclusion of the LGBTQ+ communities. Thanks!

I had the privilege and pleasure of meeting Gloria Steinem several times. I once interviewed her in a limousine for 45 minutes driving from Fordham to Ms. Magazine headquarters. She was the perfect role model for me intellectually & personally. She helped women achieve rights & freedoms globally.
To Maura - with sisterhood,

Read this report "AI Slop and the Information Ecosystem" to understand what is at stake using ai in academia. Don't use this technology, don't encourage your students to, pressure your university to pull the plug on its use in and outside of class.

Highly recommend The AI Con, by Emily Bender and Alex Hanna. It clarifies what "AI" is and isn't while placing its history and hype into an ethical context which is informative and thought provoking. It would work really well in the classroom because it is a clearly written and quick read.

EXCEPT that's NOT what INTELLIGENCE is. OpenAi: "We see a future where intelligence is a utility, like electricity or water, & people buy it from us on a meter."

I am currently reading philosophers and ethicists analyzing 'bullshit' (as distinct from lies/lying). It is relevant to my work on pseudohistory and "AI."

Facebook is censoring posts about the General Strike on January 30th. Fascism has clearly come to Amerikkka when private companies conspire with a dictator to gag free speech, to prevent freedom of assembly, and to silence critics.

Adding to my reading list: "The new Luddites aren’t afraid of AI. They’re afraid of the people who profit from pretending it’s intelligent." Eric J Larson (LA Review of Books) "The AI Con: How to Fight Big Tech’s Hype and Create the Future We Want" by Emily M. Bender and Alex Hanna.

105 years ago today, Tennessee became the 36th and last state needed for ratification of the 19th Amendment which embedded the right of women to vote in the U.S. Constitution. Bells rang across America. Today, some Republicans are actively speaking out against women's right to vote.

Many museum exhibits and historical markers across the U.S. could use an overhaul. But censorship and suppressing the experiences of women, people of color, immigrants, workers, & indigenous peoples is morally corrupt. Leave museums to professionals & communities. Keep politicians out of it.

A new book to add to the reading list on the history of economic thought. But skeptical of all-encompassing claims to the "scientific nature" of economics, which like history is not free from value judgments and bias. A "critical" approach should acknowledge this, even without being heterodox.

Too bad it is ridiculously expensive. A bit ironic for a book promoting ethical capitalism.

A ceo is shot and killed, a nationwide manhunt unsues, a suspect is captured, charged with terrorism, and faces the death penalty. A gay couple is repeatedly terrorized, one is shot dead, and "neighbors quarrel"?!! Stop the campaign of hate, denigration and terrorism from governments and churches.

The criminal and arbitrary defunding of scientific, medical, and technological research, the arts, humanities, and education is sabotaging all the things that made America civilized, successful, and the envy of the world. This is criminal sedition.

The LARGEST PROTEST in history was unique for not being aimed at civil rights or against a war, BUT against a President, his administration, their cruel, incompetent, and illegal policies, and their systemic criminality.

St. Patrick's Day celebrations began in America as political & cultural resistance to anti-Irish & anti-Catholic hatred. They held parades to stand up for their dignity & against stereotypes. The American Party tried to stop them from becoming citizens & voting. The parallels today are STRIKING.

The Declaration of Independence was IMMEDIATELY translated into and printed in German. It was for citizens and there was no objection. America has always been multilingual.
