Yeah, I have some literary fiction on my shelf, one from PRH and one of my books from Honford Star, where the copyright is with the original author and an agency(?) respectively. The current SF magazine hot topic is also about an attempted shift to work for hire for cover art. It's everywhere.

All light novel pubs take copyright. It's the same for their genre imprints. The translators who do that work don't deserve less because LNs are perceived as unserious reading. The fact that it's always been that way doesn't make it more acceptable than Europa Editions (and some others) doing it.

Wrote a haphazard #ReadingLog again. I'm never sure what my goal is with these, but I've been consistently writing them for a long time now, so clearly there's something about it that I personally find valuable. It's just an added bonus if someone else finds it valuable too. #AmReading #booksky

Tokyopop credits rather extensively for their manga, but only on the copyright page. I can't imagine their non-manga would be any different.

I don't remember being scared by this movie, but I do remember my second grade teacher reading the book aloud to us in class, becoming obsessed with Justin, and then naming a mealworm I raised after him 🤣

If you're not a member, do you just show up and pay at the door? It's not really clear on the event page and there's no way to proceed without making an account (which I don't want to do because I don't plan on becoming a member of the organization).

Intentionally using Arial and I have touched the symbol settings at all. I think they default curvy? If I open the doc again in Word, I think they're becoming full width for some reason?

I've been trying this and a bunch of the punctuation always breaks (specifically quotation marks and apostrophes) if I then open the file in my copy of Word. Any ideas? 😅

Oh! That *is* what I would also consider cheap, but I have three pairs that don't bother me when I use them over my 10,000 yen wireless ones. Then again, I only use the wired ones at home or the office...🤔 Hopefully you'll get used to the cheaper ones soon 😭

My mother has one and it's been cracked in the middle for years. She just likes it because it's small though since it's more like an old flip phone than a phone trying to be a tablet. I got a budget phone to solve the stupid phone size personally, but whatever works (or doesn't in this case) 😂

Adjacent tangent, but I went to a translation workshop a few months ago where the translator who was running it, Sam Bett, said that he thinks a dictionary is a better thesaurus than a thesaurus. (This will definitely not help your very specific problem, but you reminded me of this thought.)

To be clear, many other people who are involved in the broader process also experience this. It's particularly noticeable in games, where long credit reels aren't even uncommon, but loc teams are often hidden from view. Thoughts brought to you by The Batman, a good movie with very long credits.

2190

Taylor Drew @mollymay5000.bsky.social · 06/09/2026

Some movie credits run for over ten minutes, but many manga translators have to beg for clients to even allow their work to be listed on a private portfolio, let alone anywhere that the public can actually see and use, and manga production teams are *significantly* smaller. It's obscene, honestly.

It's a whole thing every time, yeah lol PW isn't available in Japanese outside of Japan region stores/accounts, but I think that's the only language restriction other than needing to download DLC for complete access.

You have to download the other languages as DLC. It's to save space during the initial download. The first collection was the same.
