Started a new little series of postcard sized collages on then back of daily prayers for lent.
At the top of a blank white wall space are 5 small (4.25x5.5”) collages by artist Molly McCracken. On the far left the first Collage contains a black and white door with an image of two white women, one in a blue dress, looking up to the corner and one with her back to the audience in a pink dress the second collage contains words from ads ripped out of an old national geographic Magazine, and a woman in a short sleeve shirt with short brown hair and her back to the audience. The third collage contains more words from ads from the National Geographic magazine and includes a woman in a green coat and orange cap, pushing an old-fashioned baby buggy with a young child in it. The fourth Collage contains some words near the top that say “now we have the authority“, part of a black-and-white photograph that shows a door in the background and someone’s arm with a cane in the foreground, an old edge of paper with tape on it into the right a woman wearing a plaid skirt and a white shirt with her arm around a young child. On the far right, the final Collage contains a black-and-white image at a 90 degree angle of the original orientation of a cow with a person standing next to it and a piece of white paper with the words important relation over the face and in the lower left-hand corner, a woman with brown hair, wearing a hat and a pink tank top stairs toward the image of the cow

Took down the finished piece I was working on and started a new one in the body abstractions series. This group of images go from the blank wall on the right, to midway through my work today in the middle, to where I left it when I went home. Mixed media collage on paper. Size very large.
A large mixed media work in progress on paper tacked up on a wall at Idylwood Studios by artist Molly McCracken. This piece has a variety of shapes and colors, including greens, dark, purple, neon pink, orange and blue. There are circular shapes in lines and squiggles and pieces cut out of Collage paper. An earlier iteration of the work in progress by Molly McCracken, tacked up on the wall in her studio at Idylwood Studios. This one has many of the drawn in elements with watercolor pencil and Stabilo pencil in a variety of colors plus one vertical collage piece in the left third. Artist Molly McCracken’s studio wall. A white wall with a board with paint drips below. The left there’s an apron hanging on a hook near the door and a table full of brushes, a bag of dog treats, gesso and other tools. There are two small pieces of artwork above the table. One is an abstract, colorful piece with swoops of bright colors approximately 8 x 8“ and to the right of that there is a vertical green piece that looks like film with little dark rectangles in it.

Something I’m working on. If you know a place that would like to show these huge pieces, let me know! ✂️
A wooden board tacked to a white wall in artist Molly McCracken‘s studio at Idylwood Studios. On the board is a large piece of paper approximately 72 x 48“ with an abstract mixed media collage of the internal workings of the artist’s body. Starting at the left are green shapes and white shapes with small neon, yellow and orange circles. There are also white and gray and purple curved lines near the top and running along the bottom horizontally is a red and pink line. in the center is a blue circular shape and to the right of that gray funnels, running horizontally and connecting in the middle. To the right of that are many vertical lines intersected by a curvy horizontal line about midway up the paper. Below the central line, the colors are primarily black, green and magenta. Above the central line, the colors are primarily purple, blue and black. To the far right there is an orange vertical line. It is hard to describe the many layers and levels of paper paint and drawing that create different shapes with color and texture.

Next 4 for #februllage.
A 5 x 5“ Collage by Molly McCracken on white paper lying on a table with some paint marks behind it. The images are cut from an old National Geographic magazine, and include a middle-aged white woman with a camera around her neck, wearing blue jeans and a white T-shirt, bending forward to look at a separate cut of paper of cairn or stack of rocks. In the lower right hand corner is a date stamp with FEB 14 2025 and below that in pencil the word romance. This is the prompt for the daily Collage challenge called Februllage for February 14. A 5 x 5“ Collage on white paper by artist Molly McCracken. The image is of a ring with three cut gems the middle, which is yellow, and the two on either side of the yellow one appear to be diamonds set in a white gold band. On the yellow central gem, the artist has cut out some black stripes, sort of to mimic the stripes of a tiger. In the lower right hand corner is a date stamp with FEB 15 2025 and below that in pencil, the word tiger. This is the prompt for the 15th day of the Februllage challenge.A 5 x 5“ Collage on white paper by artist Molly McCracken. The images include on the left, a hiker with a red backpack and short, dark hair walking through a green space with a rock near their foot. The paper has been cut off the front half of the person so that there is negative white space in between that cut of paper and the others on the upper right corner which include a figure cut out of a background which includes a partially green and partially snowy mountain side, so that the negative space is where this figure would have been. In the lower right hand corner as a date stamp with FEB 16 2025 and below that the word freeze in pencil. This is the prompt for the 16th day of Februllage. A 5 x 5” Collage on white paper by artist Molly McCracken for the daily Collage challenge called Februllage. The image is of the torso and thighs of a woman wearing only underwear and just above her waist is a cut out of a pink Jell-O mold on an old recipe that you can barely see the word jelly. On top of the pink are some white dots in the different sections of the Jell-O mold and on the very top is a red dot. In the lower right hand corner as a date stamp with FEB 17 2025 and below that in pencil, the word jelly.

#februllage day 10 - dots. Cut from an old Nat Geo photo of the 1953 Inaugural Parade.
A 5x5 collage showing irregularly shaped dots cut from a black and white photograph of the 1953 US Inaugural Parade in Washington DC. The 32 dots range in size from approximately 1/4 inch to one inch in size and are arranged to approximately mimic what the photo looked like before it was cut up, sort of as if you were looking through Swiss cheese at the parade. Some parts have been changed and arranged in a way to make things aligned that the artist felt looked better. In the lower right hand corner is a date stamp with FEB 10 2025 and below in pencil the word DOTS.

Super spooky dog walk after/during the rain yesterday evening as the snow and ice melted and formed a foggy situation.
An icy pathway through the leafless woods on the left and a creek with leaf litter on the right. Fog throughout. Cream colored golden doodle on a leash with a blue harness standing on a big fallen tree that has been sawed off so the circular part is facing the camera. Foggy, leaf littered winter woods in the background.Tall straight tulip poplar tree in the center surrounded by other deciduous trees in the foggy woods. From the central tree several curvy branches reach out like octopus tentacles. Several tall straight tulip poplars stand along a path. In the background a hill covered with green and brown shrubbery and small patches of snow lead up to a foggy plateau with more deciduous trees in the far distance.

A tree that had fallen over and was starting to decay in a magazine cut out and repositioned as part of a challenge called februllage. The cutting is on a 5x5 inch paper with a date stamp in the lower right that says Feb 01 2025 and the word trees written in pencil below. This collage is lying on a lined notebook page on a wooden table. Each of the images in this series are the same but with the tree cutout in a slightly different position to see where it looks best before gluing it down. In this picture the tree is somewhat vertical placed inside the hole it was cut from. In this image the tree is leaning to the right coming up from the hole it was cut from. No comment #2.
A cream colored golden doodle stands on a rug surrounded by the stuffing from a gray dragon stuffed animal to its right.

Taking some time this morning to set up for a private workshop tomorrow at Idylwood Studios. Also, doing a little work of my own on that big paper. Good thing it is strong watercolor paper because I’m scrubbing the heck out of it to alleviate anxiety.
Art tables set up for a workshop with scissors, glue, paper on a drawing board and cradled wood panel substrate in the gallery hallway at Idylwood Studios. The walls on either side have artwork. Two folding tables stacked next to each other with supplies for an art workshop, including a drawing board with white paper, a cradle, wood board substrate, scissors in two sizes, glue, paintbrush, and an old phone book to use for gluing. There is a blue and a green stool poking out from the side of the table for seating. And a little corner of a brightly colored artwork up on the wall next to the table.A table with rainbow colored trays of paper, colored pencils, watercolors, and cups for water in the foreground. In the background are several tables set up with materials for a Collage workshop. On the walls is art by Molly McCracken, Casey Thompson, Pamela Huffman and Casey Wait.

Just pinned a huge piece of paper (78x42) for my next piece in the body abstractions series. (Thanks @maureenminard.bsky.social) What should I call this series? Body Weight? Body Work? These works reflect the inner workings of me both biologically (eg. nut allergy) and emotional (eg. anxiety).
Large piece of white paper pinned to a board on a wall in Molly McCracken’s art studio. The foreground has lots of papers, paints and other art supplies on a long table.
