My #boardgames for September. A much lighter month than usual, mostly due to workload. Not pictured: dozens of games of riichi mahjong on Mahjong Soul. September '26 was when I learned how to play, and wow it's addictive. #bgstats

#ZeroCompany is a good game, but the bugs just kill me. In the last 24 hours game crashes have forced me to replay two boss fights. I just fought the last boss, got a little bit of denouement, and then it crashed before it could save my progress.

Alex @mollarom.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

The Great Zimbabwe was great indeed. A spatial economic game that really sings. You need to position your assets carefully and beware of players who will completely abuse the system if you let them. Every asset pushes victory farther away, and the bid for initiative system is top notch. #boardgames

Wow did I not enjoy Fractal. Explore: kinda Expand: yes Exploit: not really Exterminate: not much else to do Card-driven combat, but it was very rock paper scissors. #boardgames

Fractal Beyond the Void. Plastic multicolored ships on hexes.

Today we had 4-player Star Wars deck builder during lunch break with the latest expansion. We had to homebrew a few rules to make it work, but so far it's working. #boardgames

Root! Cats vs Bats vs Knaves vs my beloved Corvids. I jumped to an early lead, the Cats and I fought a bunch and the Knaves capitalized on the scraps. First time playing against the Bats and sweet Jesus I HATE THEM. #boardgames

I've been looking forward to my first game of the original Dune for weeks, and tonight we finished it in a disgustingly short 90 minutes. Still, very thematic. Emperor/Harkonnen alliance ✅ Harkonnen kill all the Atreides ✅ Harkonnen win key conflicts via betrayal ✅ Sandworm riding ✅ #boardgames

There aren't many countries I'd want to win the World Cup more than 🇲🇽. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Is one of them. Bellingham was brilliant for sure, but Anthony Gordon was my man of the match. Great speed, great football IQ. And that penalty that gave Mexico its first goal was 🐮💩.

Introduced my #boardgames crew to Old King's Crown. They're used to euros, so this was definitely a change of pace. First few rounds went by like lightning, but then some competitive spirit kicked in and turned became slower and more deliberate. Very close game, the Book of True Names was clutch.

#boardgames night: World Order. Loved it, even though I placed last. It's a game where mistakes reverberate throughout play. Last round I had three cards in my hand of 6 that allowed me to build a base, but I had no alliances with countries where I could build them. Disaster. It was 🇷🇺, then 🇪🇺, 🇨🇳, 🇺🇸

Finally finished our Blighted Reach campaign, and it was kind of a letdown. Void Wraith was impossible to stop from completing his objectives for the insta-win. No fighting in the Twisted Passage meant he could just sit there for easy control. @buriedgiantstudios.bsky.social #boardgames

#boardgames night: Feudum. It is CRIMINAL that this game is at a 7.6 on BGG. What are y'all smoking? This game has interesting hand maintenance, compelling action selection, and tons of opportunity for interactivity. Yeah, it's a teach, but once you get past that it's sublime.

Got my butt kicked in 1v1 Inferno last night. Also witnessed a Magic player get so tilted during a commander match they were thrown out of the game store. If a game is making you that angry, it's time to find a different game. #BoardGames

Finished a 4-player game of Inferno with my group. Messed up a key rule, realized it halfway through, decided to play with the broken rule, then every time someone used the broken rule it felt like they were cheating. Good game, though. Looking forward to an honest playthrough. #BoardGames

#BoardGames night: Escape Plan. Our second Lacerda game in as many weeks, and it's another banger. The cops are on to us. Scour the city, secure your stashed money, and GTFO with more cash than your fellow criminals. Much lighter weight than our usual fare, great theme, 9/10 for me.

#boardgames night: Speakeasy with three players. Better worker placement than my beloved Dune Imperium? I'm not sure, but it's up there. Less cutthroat, no deck building, but much tighter. Every move counts, and there are no easy points.

My August in #boardgames. Highlight: Vijayanagara on Rally the Troops I'd be okay never playing Ahoy, Kinfire Chronicles, Terraforming Mars and Pagan Fate of Roanoke again. TM's popularity is inexplicable to me. Kinfire is just meh, and Ahoy's central conflict just doesn't intrigue me.

#boardgames lunch hour: Black Orchestra, 4 players. We nearly lost the game on Act 2. Everyone was at extreme suspicion, I spent my turn lowering my suspicion then drew a Gestapo card, sending all three of my coworkers to the slammer. The hour ended with everyone free, but no plots among us.
